Apple reportedly working on 7th-gen iPod Touch, may introduce Type-C in next iPhone: Report
  • Without delving out information on specifications, features and launch date, Mac Otakara says that the 7th-generation iPod Touch “might” be in development to replace the 6th-generation one.

  • Apple is claimed to be working on 7th-gen iPod Touch.
  • The company may also introduce Type-C port in 2019 iPhones.

A Japanese media outlet has claimed that Apple is working on the next generation of iPod Touch and the company may also ditch the regular Lightning Connector in favour of a Type-C charging port in the next crop of iPhones. Mac Otakara claims that several suppliers at CES 2019 told the publication that a 7th-generation iPod Touch “might” be in development as a replacement for the 6th-generation version.

The news platform neither provides any details on the specs and features, nor any information on the launch date. Apple refreshed the iPod lineup back in 2015 with a 64-bit A8 chip –  the same processor that powers the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The iPod Touch has an 8MP camera that is capable of recording videos at 1080p and slow motion videos at 120fps. The company retained the 4-inch display, but increased the storage options up to 128GB.

If the claims are true, iPod affectionados are in for a treat but apparently, the love for devices, which are purposely used for listening to music is waning. This behaviour could be attributed to the introduction of good audio chips in smartphones which more-or-less serve the same purpose as the standalone devices. There is no clarity about Apple’s plans on the iPods and these could see a comeback like the Mac Mini in October last year.

Further, the report says that the next generation of iPhones, which may be called the iPhone XI, may come with a USB Type-C port. Apple has already introduced this connector in iPad Pros as well as the new lineup of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air that were launched last year. This is not the first time that a USB Type-C port has been associated with iPhones. A previous report also claimed that 2019 iPhone lineup is expected have Type-C port.
