WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new visual design overhaul that will alter the way users view status updates. As stated by Wabetainfo, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform is planning to integrate the Status update into the Chats tab. This change is currently in the works and aims to make status viewing faster and more accessible without requiring users to switch tabs.

According to the report, the feature has been tested in recent iOS builds via TestFlight, and parallel development for Android is also underway. However, the change is not yet available to beta testers, but the preview shows a redesigned interface with status updates integrated into the main chat screen.

The feature is said to add a dedicated row of status updates to the top of the Chats tab. Users may be able to access this section by bringing down the chat list, which displays recent updates shared by their contacts. The app aims to reduce friction by allowing users to quickly check for updates without having to navigate to a separate Updates tab.

Furthermore, WhatsApp is said to be working on integrating a status tray into the navigation bar. This tray may display updates from frequently contacted users, prioritised based on their interaction patterns. Muted or hidden statuses, like the existing Updates tab, may be accessible via a separate entry point.

The feature is also expected to simplify content creation by allowing users to post status updates directly from the Chats tab itself. This will provide a more seamless way to view status updates while also chatting within the same interface.

It should be noted that the feature is still in development, and the company has yet to confirm the development and release timeline. Stay tuned to Digit for more information.
