Sony launches PlayStation Family app to help parents monitor kids’ gaming habits
Parents can view detailed activity reports and approve extra playtime requests in real time.
The app includes guided onboarding, spending controls, and customizable content filters.
Available now on App Store and Google Play, with more features promised in future updates.
Sony is expanding its parental control options with the release of a new dedicated PlayStation Family app for iOS and Android. While the PS5 and PS4 already allow parents to manage restrictions directly on the console, the new app provides a more convenient and flexible way to monitor activity.
SurveyThe new application includes detailed activity reports, visibility into which games children are playing, and the ability to approve requests for additional playtime. Parents will also be able to set up child accounts through a guided onboarding process, manage PlayStation Store spending, and fine-tune privacy settings, all from their smartphones.
To put it simply, the new app will provide parents with greater control and visibility, as well as real-time notifications to keep them informed. If you have children who play PlayStation games, you should be aware that the PlayStation Family app is now available in the App Store and Google Play in the majority of markets. Sony claims that this is only the beginning, with plans to add more features and improvements over time.

“We’re excited to bring an easy way for parents to manage their children’s gaming directly from their mobile devices. This is just the beginning with our new mobile app – we’ll plan to continue adding enhancements to the PlayStation Family app to evolve the experience over time. We hope you’ll enjoy it, and we look forward to your feedback,” the company added in its blog post.
With this release, Sony joins Nintendo and Microsoft in providing similar parental control apps for the Switch and Xbox. For the unversed, Xbox Family Settings were introduced five years back, while Nintendo’s parental controls were introduced along with the Switch’s arrival.
