Instagram adds support for Facebook Messenger-like 1-minute voice messages in Direct
Instagram is now rolling out voice messages under its Direct messaging tab on the platform.
Instagram can now do what Facebook Messenger could since a long time. The photo and video sharing platform has now added support for Voice Messages within the Direct messaging tab on the platform. The Direct tab is the one through which you can have private conversations with individuals or groups. Users will now be able to hold a mic icon to record Voice Messages in a group or one-on-one chat on Instagram Direct.
The feature works in the same way as it does on Facebook Messenger. It looks like Facebook just realised it can implement the same feature on Instagram, which is a subsidiary of the social network. Just like on Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct can be used to send and receive 1-minute-long voice messages. Users need to tap and hold the mic icon in Direct to record their messages and once they take their fingers off the record button, the voice message is automatically sent to the recipient/s. To delete recorded messages, users need to move their finger to the trash icon which can be seen while recording messages.
Instagram also recently added a Close Friends feature on the platform. Close Friends in Stories is an option that lets users share certain stories with a limited audience of their choice. With Close Friends, users have the flexibility to share more personal moments with a smaller group. You can read more about it here.
