Stuck with ‘Emergency Calls Only’ on Your Smartphone? Here are some tips to fix it

There could be many reasons behind network unavailability.

To get networks, firstly, you have to check that your device has a stable network signal. 

However, your smartphone might not be able to catch networks in a few areas.

All of us smartphone users have come across this situation time and again where we wish to make a phone call but our smartphone shows “Emergency Calls” only. Haven’t we? It feels so annoying when the smartphone is not catching the networks. But don’t worry, today I will explain what can cause this issue and how you can get out of it.

Why Does Your Smartphone Display “Emergency Calls Only”?

Okay, let’s first understand why we are seeing the  “Emergency Calls Only” message. This message usually pops up when your smartphone cannot connect to a mobile network. In simple terms, when you are not getting the networks on your smartphone. There could be many reasons behind this, like network signal issues, SIM card problems, or network provider restrictions, etc.

How to resolve it on Android devices?

Step 1: Firstly, check that your device has a stable network signal. 
Step 2: Next, try turning the Airplane Mode on and off. This resets your network connection and can often resolve connectivity issues.
Step 3: If this does not work, then try rebooting your device. It could help resolve the temporary glitches.
Step 4: Now, if these things are not working, check your SIM card and make sure it is properly inserted and functional. 
Step 5: Sometimes this could also be because of a software bug. Try updating your software to the latest available version. Just go to “Settings” > “Software Update” and install any available updates. 
Step 6: If everything is in place, you can try resetting the network settings. Go to “Settings” > “System” > “Reset” > “Reset network settings.”
Step 7: Lastly, you can even check your emergency call settings. Check when you have allowed emergency calls by going to “Settings” > “Security” > “Emergency Rescue” or a similar menu.

How to resolve it on iOS?

The steps to resolve the issue on iOS are quite similar to what we did for Android. 

Step 1: Firstly, ensure that your iPhone has a stable and strong network signal. 
Step 2: Try turning on and turning off the Airplane Mode to reset the network connection on your iPhone.
Step 3: If this does not work, try restarting your iPhone to refresh its settings
Step 4: You can even update your iOS by going to “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update” and installing any available iOS updates.
Step 5: If the problem persists, turn off your iPhone, remove the SIM card, and reinsert it. Restart your device and check if the issue remains. 
Step 6: To make sure that “Auto Call” is turned on in the “Emergency SOS” settings, go to “Settings” > “Emergency SOS” to verify this setting.
Step 7: Lastly, you can reset your network settings by going to “Settings” > “General” > “Reset” > “Reset Network Settings” to reset Wi-Fi passwords and mobile data settings.

This is how you can get the networks back in your Android or iOS device. However, these tips might not work in some instances. This is when you are actually in some “No Network” area.
