GTA 6 extended look preview: What to expect

Just a couple of days back, rumour mills were rife that GTA 6 launch could be postponed again. It all started when a former Rockstar Games animator had said that yet another delay is possible and it might last as much as 6 months. That naturally left fans worried, especially after Rockstar had already delayed the game more than once. But now, there is finally some good news. Rockstar Games and Netflix (yes, Netflix!) recently announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, giving players another glimpse at one of the most anticipated games ever made before it arrives later this year. While the studio is keeping most details under wraps, there are several details that have surfaced. Here is everything we know so far.

What did Rockstar say?

Rockstar Games has officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, which will premiere on August 27 at 3 PM ET (12:30 AM IST on August 28). Interestingly, the presentation will debut first on Netflix, making it the first time Rockstar has partnered with the streaming platform for the premiere of GTA-related content.

The showcase will later be released on Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel and the GTA VI website, around six hours after the Netflix premiere, allowing everyone to watch it.

Apart from announcing the event, Rockstar has not revealed much else. The company has simply described it as “An Extended Look”, without confirming whether fans will get gameplay footage, developer commentary, story details or a breakdown of the game’s mechanics.

The partnership with Netflix also comes as the streaming platform continues to expand its gaming catalogue, which already includes mobile versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

What can we expect?

While Rockstar has remained tight-lipped about the contents of the presentation, there definitely are some clues that could give us an idea of what the presentation might look like.

The first is the name itself. Rockstar is calling this an Extended Look, rather than simply announcing another trailer. That could suggest a longer presentation, although the studio has not explained what the title means.

If we were to predict, gameplay footage is probably the biggest thing fans will be waiting for. Until now, Rockstar has shown us plenty of cinematic footage of Vice City, Jason and Lucia, but an extended presentation could give us a much better idea of what it is actually like to play the game.

We could also get a closer look at Vice City and the wider Leonida map. Rockstar has already confirmed that GTA 6 is set across the fictional state of Leonida, so an extended presentation could show how the different locations connect with each other. Fans could get a better idea of the environments, cities and areas they will be able to explore when the game launches.

Another thing I would expect Rockstar to focus on is Jason and Lucia. The two protagonists are at the centre of GTA 6’s story, and the trailers have already established their relationship. An extended look could show more of how the two characters work together during missions and how switching between them fits into the gameplay.

Then, the game’s combat could also get some attention. We may get to see some car chases, shootouts and other activities in real gameplay rather than just cinematic sequences.

Finally, there could also be a closer look at the game’s open-world activities. GTA games have always offered a lot to do outside the main story, and GTA 6’s trailers have already shown that Leonida is designed to feel like a busy, lived-in world. If Rockstar wants to demonstrate how large and detailed the game is, showing some of these activities would make sense.

How long will the extended look be?

Now Rockstar hasn’t specified how long this extended look would be. But, there is an unconfirmed report about the runtime. Netflix customer support reportedly told a fan that the presentation would be around 20 minutes long. And if this indeed turns out to be true, the video would be considerably longer than a usual GTA trailer and could give Rockstar enough time to show more than just cinematic footage.

However, there is a reason to not get too excited here. The response reportedly came from Netflix customer support, and it is unclear whether the person responding was a human representative or an AI chatbot.

That said, the claim does still line up with an earlier rumour from GTA content creator DarkViperAU. He had previously claimed that one of his sources told him Rockstar was preparing a 20-minute GTA 6 gameplay presentation. Gaming insider NateTheHate had also said that the next GTA 6 reveal would provide a “meaningful look” at the game.

What we know about GTA 6

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, despite recent rumours suggesting another delay.

Pre-orders are already live in India. The Standard Edition is priced at Rs 5,999, while the Ultimate Edition costs Rs 7,499. Players who pre-order the digital version will be able to pre-load the game from November 12.

The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, and follows protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as they navigate an open world centred around Vice City.

Rockstar first confirmed that GTA 6 was in development in 2022 before officially unveiling the game in 2023. After multiple delays, the title is now on track for release later this year, with the Extended Look expected to be one of the final major updates before launch.
