The Alert Slider, which has been one of the iconic features of the OnePlus device, was known as the simple and continent option to switch between the sound profiles. However, the company is now considering adding a new smart button as an upgrade. “As much as I enjoyed the Alert Slider, I kept asking myself the same question. How can it do more?” CEO Lau wrote.
According to OnePlus, this decision was made after considering user feedback, as many customers requested more control over the Alert Slider.
According to the post, the new Smart Button will provide more flexibility. However, the specifics of the button are unknown, but you can expect the new button to still allow you to switch profiles without unlocking the phone.
The new Smart Button is said to be customizable, which means that users will be able to assign various functions based on their needs. It may allow users to launch an app, enable a shortcut, or change system settings.
“We’re not just replacing the Alert Slider, we’re evolving it, keeping the best parts while unlocking new possibilities that weren’t possible before,” Lau added.
The official release date of the Smart Button is unknown, but it is expected to debut alongside the OnePlus 14. Meanwhile, the company is looking for feedback from the OnePlus community to improve the Smart button.
Interestingly, the company has hinted at “future-ready” capabilities, implying that the button may play a role in future software and AI-powered experiences.
