HIGHLIGHTS

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 offers a more practical design with a thinner body and smaller 5.99-inch display. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 mobile platform and comes with an option for up to 8GB RAM.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, the second iteration of company's bezel-less smartphone has been launched in China. The company announced the smartphone with a tweaked design and flagship specifications at an event yesterday. While the original Mi Mix was limited to Xiaomi's home market, the Mi Mix 2 is expected to become available in more regions.

Xiaomi has now confirmed that Mi Mix 2 will soon become available in India. Manu Jain, Managing Director, Xiaomi India confirmed that company's latest bezel-less smartphone will be launched in India soon. Jain had previously said that Xiaomi plans to launch at least one flagship Mi smartphone in the country. It is not immediately clear when Xiaomi plans to debut the device here, but it might arrive at a time when Apple's newest iPhone with an edge-to-edge display becomes available here.

Xiaomi announced the original Mi Mix with over 90 percent screen-to-body ratio in October last year and showcased the device at CES 2017. The smartphone was a window to near bezel-less design found on LG G6, LG V30 and Samsung's Galaxy S8 series and Note 8 smartphones. The desire to own one was evident among Mi Fans but the smartphone was available in China and Russia in limited quantities.

With Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi has evolved the design and it is expected to be available globally. In terms of specifications, the Mi Mix 2 sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone sports an aluminium frame with a four-sided curved ceramic body. The handset is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 mobile chipset coupled with 6GB RAM and option for either 64GB or 128GB or 256GB internal storage.

The only downside of original Mi Mix was its piezoelectric speaker, the company has fixed that by adding a hidden speaker setup to Mi Mix 2. The smartphone also sports a 12MP optically stabilised rear camera setup with Sony IMX386 sensor and a 5MP selfie camera. The device supports up to 43 Global LTE bands, making it ideal to work in any part of the world.

Alongside Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi has also introduced a special edition model with four sided curved ceramic unibody design, 8GB and 128GB storage. The standard model will be available in black while special edition will be available in black or white colour option. The standard variant starts at 3,299 Yuan (around Rs 33,000) for the 64GB storage variant while special edition is priced at 4,699 Yuan (around Rs 47,000). Xiaomi could price it competitively to take on Samsung's Galaxy S8, LG V30 and Apple's 2017 iPhones.
