HIGHLIGHTS

Apple's 4-inch iPhone SE will now be available in 32GB and 128GB storage options, starting from March 24 in India.

Apple has silently doubled the memory capacity of its 4-inch iPhone SE. The Apple iPhone SE was announced last year in 16GB and 64GB trims, and will now be offered in 32GB and 128GB storage options. Prices for the entry-level iPhone will start upward of Rs 27,200, and is likely to become available from March 24. The 16GB and 64GB variants of the iPhone SE recently received price cuts in India, but Apple will be discontinuing those variants for the new, higher storage ones.

The announcement of the updated iPhone SE comes at a time when reports indicate that Apple will start assembling the iPhone SE in India. Apple CEO Tim Cook is bullish about the company's prospects in the world's second largest smartphone market, India. While Apple is planning to phase out older storage options, it seems likely that existing SE models will receive further price cuts, possibly to clear stocks. Apple wants to make inroads into the price-conscious Indian market, and the iPhone SE may be key to it reaching out to a wider customer base in India.

While the iPhone SE receives a bump in memory, all other features remain identical to last year's variant. The device resembles the Apple iPhone 5s, with hardware specs similar to that of the iPhone 6s. It sports a 4-inch Retina Display with screen resolution of 1136×640 pixels, and is powered by Apple's A9 processor coupled with the M9 Motion coprocessor. The iPhone SE also sports the same 12MP rear camera sensor as the iPhone 6s with dual-tone flash and 4K video recording.

The 4-inch iPhone SE misses out on 3D Touch, water resistance and gets a comparatively lower resolution front camera. The Apple iPhone SE runs on iOS 10, with support for over a million apps. It is available in silver, gold, rose gold and space grey colour variants. The Apple iPhone SE may not be the best iPhone around, but makes sense for those looking to buy a small phone.
