Audio-Technica expands its Hi-res audio lineup with ATH-SR5 headphones priced at Rs. 12,990
HIGHLIGHTS

Joining the older ATH-MSR7, this new model in the series promises music like never before

While we’re not exactly sure how exactly the “Hi-Res” tag can be applied to headphones, Audio-Technica is busy expanding its “Hi-Res Certified Audio Headphones” lineup. The latest entrant in Audio-Technica’s Hi-Res lineup is the ATH-SR5 On-Ear headphone, which it has just launched in India. The headphones were first seen at CES 2016 earlier this year and have finally made their way to India with a price tag of Rs.12,990. Hitting the shelves this July, the ATH-SR5 headphones will be available in three colours – Black (ATH-SR5BK), White (ATH-SR5WH) and a blend of Navy and Brown (ATH-SR5NBW).

The Audio Technica ATH-SR5 feature 45-mm drivers for Hi-Res audio reproduction that operate between the frequency ranges of 5 – 40,000 Hz. Weighing close to 165g, these closed-back dynamic on-ear headphones are quite lightweight and come with flexible swivel design. They also feature soft memory foam ear pads for comfortable long listening hours along with easily adjustable headband slider.

The headphones do not come with any active noise cancellation but going by the kind of isolation provided by its older sibling – the ATH MSR7 – you can expect the passive noise cancellation provided by the memory foam to be quite good. It also comes with a 1.2-meter detachable cable along with an omnidirectional condenser microphone with a frequency response of 50 – 4,000 Hz and inline primary controls such as play, pause, fast-forward, reverse, next/previous track that are compatible with smartphones and portable music devices.

The ATH-SR5 is priced lower than the Audio Technica ATH-MSR7, which we’ve reviewed before and are quite fond of, to be honest. We’re eager to get our hands on this new SKU from the same lineup so stay tuned for the full review.
