Xiaomi Operations Manager reveals, that it has plans to update the Mi 4 to Android Marshmallow in the coming weeks
Xiaomi Mi 4 users are in for a treat as Xiaomi’s MIUI Operations Manager has just revealed that the company is planning to update its Mi 4 smartphone to the latest version of Android. Another phone, Mi Note which is not sold in India is also eligible for the update and might get the update simultaneously. The Xiaomi official revealed these plans on microblogging website Weibo. According to him these smartphones will be the first two receive the update.
According to the MIUI Operations Manager, the Marshmallow update is expected to come in the next few weeks. He also states that the update won’t change the UI as the update will be layered under MIUI 7 only. MIUI 7, which started rolling out last month, is available for all Xiaomi phones which are sold in India. The latest UI update brought features like a smart gallery, custom theme maker, Improved IVR, data saver and more. The current UI is based on Android Lollipop.
Xiaomi’ Mi 4 which is expected to receive Android Marshmallow in the coming weeks has been around for quite some time now. The smartphone which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, does not support 4G in India. However, the company does offer it with 64GB of storage option and a very respectable 13MP rear camera. The 5-inch smartphone is one of the most affordable flagship class smartphone, you can buy today.
It should also be mentioned that Mi 4 users can also download and install Windows 10 on their mobile. However, this facility is only available for users owning the 4G variant of the phone which means, it is not applicable for Indian customers as the company only sells the 3G version of the phone in India. Although, we do expect, Xiaomi to release the Windows 10 ROM for the 3G variant as well in the coming months.
Coming back to the Marshmallow update, until now only Motorola has started rolling out Marshmallow update for its phones. Other major manufacturers are currently in the process of rolling the latest Android update to their flagship devices. Besides Xiaomi, only Honor has revealed plans for a Marshmallow update on its phones in the coming months.
