OnePlus phones are now banned in Germany, here is why
German authorities ban the OnePlus products due to a legal dispute over patent issues in the country.
This dispute revolves around a crucial patent for 5G and mobile technologies.
The banned devices are OnePlus 12, OnePlus 11, and OnePlus Open.
OnePlus returned its product to Germany in January 2024 after a patent dispute with Nokia. It was only for 9 months and now the Chinese brand is again stopping its sale in Germany due to a ban on its product. German authorities ban the OnePlus products due to a legal dispute over patent issues in the country. This legal dispute is between OnePlus and InterDigital, which is a research and development company on wireless devices. This dispute revolves around a crucial patent for 5G and mobile technologies. InterDigital is claiming that OnePlus has broken the terms of patents related to 5G.
According to a report by a German publication, Allround PC, due to this conflict between both brands, OnePlus had to halt all of its product sales in German. If you go to OnePlus’ German online store, the only products left there are the OnePlus Pad 2 and the OnePlus Watch 2. This is because both of these products don’t come with cellular support.
OnePlus has also addressed the issue and issued a statement, where it is assuring its current users that they will continue to receive support on their devices while the dispute is being resolved. The company also said, “OnePlus places high value on intellectual property rights and fair access to standard essential patents, which is essential for driving innovation in the industry.”
Now, which devices have been banned from Germany? OnePlus has stopped the sales of the following devices:
- OnePlus Open
- OnePlus 12
- OnePlus 11
Previously, OnePlus has had legal issues in Germany with Nokia as well. This earlier problem resulted in a temporary ban on OnePlus devices, which hurt their sales a lot. However, it looked like the issue was getting better, allowing OnePlus to get back to business. We have no idea how much time will this new dispute take to get OnePlus back on track again. So, for more updates on the same, stay tuned.
