Google Play Store support to be included in BlackBerry 10.2.1?
If reports are to be believed, BlackBerry may allow its BB10 users to access Android apps through Google Play store.
Is Google Play store coming to the BlackBerry platform? A set of purported screenshots reveal the Play store running on a BlackBerry device along with a new operating system version. If images are to be believed, the next BlackBerry OS update, v10.2.1, suggests users will get direct access to the Play store on their devices.
Opinions on the authenticity of these images that were spotted on CrackBerry forum seem to be mixed, considering the photos were posted without much comment. According to reports, BlackBerry’s next OS update is under internal testing. It’s notable the OS 10.2 was rolled out very recently, it may take a while for the release.
BlackBerry hasn’t commented on the leaked images yet.
BlackBerry has been working to reinvent itself with the launch of new BlackBerry 10 OS and roll out of its BBM messaging platform to Android and iOS platforms. BBM has done quite well on other platforms with downloads surpassing 10 million downloads on Android and iOS.
Moreover, BlackBerry recently announced giving up plans to sell itself to Fairfax Financial Holdings or any other suitors. John Chen, former CEO of Sybase steped in as interim CEO, in place of Thorsten Heins, BlackBerry said in a statement.
If reports are true, addition of support to the Play store is certainly going to be a great boost to the BlackBerry platform. Do you think the move will help BlackBerry make a strong comeback? Let us know in the comments section below:
