However, Apple may have joined the foldable party a little late, as Android smartphone makers have already established a strong presence in this segment. Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, while Xiaomi introduced the 18 Fold just a few days ago. Apple’s first iPhone foldable comes equipped with a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a 5.4-inch outer panel. Both the panels are ProMotion, and when used under bright light, they can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The screen also gets Ceramic Shield protection.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 houses a 5.5-inch AMOLED 2x cover display along with a 7.6-inch AMOLED inner panel. Both the screens support a 120 Hz refresh rate and are claimed to reach a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits when used outdoors. The screens are protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 5.38-inch AMOLED cover display and a 7.58-inch AMOLED folding display with a 120 Hz refresh rate on both screens. When used under bright sunlight, the company claims that the display can be as bright as 4,000 nits. The makers have installed Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3 to protect the panel from scratches.

In terms of power, Apple has packed the iPhone Duo with the latest A20 Pro chipset with a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine. It also sports 12GB of RAM and up to 2TB of internal storage.
In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, which is further paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. Out of the box, the smartphone runs on One UI 9, a skin based on Android 17.
Talking about Xiaomi’s 18 Fold, the device draws its power from Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chipset, which is built on 3nm technology. Other than that, it also sports Mali-G2-Ultra NX, up to 16GB LPDDR6 RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The device is shipped with Android 17-based HyperOS 4.

In the camera department, the iPhone Duo comes equipped with a dual camera setup at the back, including a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultrawide sensor. For selfies and video calls, it comes with a 12MP front camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 also sports a dual camera setup at the back of the device. However, it comes with a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP ultrawide lens. Users also get a 10MP camera on both the cover and inner displays, which can be used for selfies and video calls.
Unlike the Apple iPhone Duo and the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a triple camera setup at the back, led by a 200MP primary camera. Along with that, it sports a 50 MP periscope telephoto sensor and a 50 MP ultrawide lens. It also houses a 16MP selfie shooter on both the cover and inner screen.

Apple’s iPhone Duo comes with a dual-battery system; the exact details are under wraps at the time of writing. However, Apple has confirmed that the device will get 60W wired and up to 25W wireless charging. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, however, comes with a 4,800 mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging, and the Xiaomi 18 Fold sports the largest 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is clubbed with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Apple’s iPhone Duo has landed in the Indian market with a starting price of Rs 2,99,900, while the base variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 was launched at Rs 1,79,999. Xiaomi has not yet officially announced the launch date or price of its Xiaomi 18 Fold. However, rumours and global pricing suggest that the foldable could be priced at around Rs 1,55,000 when it launches in India.
