According to Google’s report, this data was gathered over a seven-day period ending on March 7 and also shows that Android Lollipop is the version present on most devices

Google has updated its Android distribution statistics, and as per its report, only 2.3% of Android devices are currently running Android Marshmallow v6.0. For now, Android Lollipop (v5.0 and v5.1) is the most popular version of Google’s mobile operating system with a combined share of 36.1%. This is followed by Android Kitkat v4.4 with a share of 34.3%.

The three builds of Android Jellybean (v4.1, v4.2, and v4.3) were present on a total of 22.3% devices, while Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0.3 and v4.0.4 had a share of 2.3%. Android Gingerbread v2.3 and Froyo v2.2 are still active with a share of 2.6% and 0.1% respectively. As per Google’s report, this data was collected through a seven-day period ending on March 7, and reflected devices that were running the latest Google Play Store app.

The share of Android Marshmallow devices should grow over the coming months as more manufacturers launch smartphones running the operating system out of the box. Older devices running Android Lollipop are also being upgraded to Marshmallow, which should increase the operating system’s overall share.
