Android Lollipop memory leak bug to be fixed with an upcoming update
HIGHLIGHTS

The memory leak bug on Android 5.0 closes opened apps and forces reloading of the home screen

Android Lollipop from Google may have been the latest and the greatest update to the Android ecosystem till date, but it still has lot of bugs. In the current matter, there is a memory leak bug which forces reloading of the homescreen and is killing off opened apps on many devices.

Many Nexus devices like Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 are suffering from this issue right after updating to Android Lollipop. In some cases Android system is taking up 1.2GB of RAM space instead of just 500MB. In retaliation the code.google thread which is the AOSP issue tracker thread is filled by angry users and their complaints.

The good news is Google has found a bug fix and it will be out later with a small software update. No date or rollout plan has been notified by Google as of now and you might have to wait for some time as Google will be rolling out the update which will include more bug fixes rather having just one. So keep looking for a bug-fix update 5.0.3.
