Google Gemini may soon let you create custom AI agents directly on Android: Here is what we know

HIGHLIGHTS

Google may soon let Android users create custom Gemini AI agents directly from their phones.

The upcoming feature includes ready-made templates for tasks like study, finance, family, and marketing.

The feature is still in testing, and Google has not announced an official rollout date.

Google is reportedly working on another upgrade for Gemini that could make AI agents easier to access on mobile devices. According to a new report, a change has been spotted in the latest Google app for Android which suggests that the users may soon be able to create and manage custom AI agents without needing a desktop browser. Right now, this feature is only available through the web for Google Workspace and Enterprise users. If Google expands it to Android, creating task-specific AI assistants could become much more convenient. While the feature is still under testing and not officially announced, it gives an early look at how Google plans to bring more Gemini tools directly to smartphones.

According to a report by Android Authority, the feature was spotted in version 17.45.14 of the Google app for Android, which serves as the main gateway to Gemini. The publication found evidence that Google is testing a new option called ‘New agent’ inside Gemini’s sidebar. The button appears below the list of recent conversations and is designed to let users create AI agents from their phones or tablets.

Preset templates

The web version allows Workspace and Enterprise users to specify a custom task in detail. However, the Android version presently has five preset templates. These templates cover common everyday needs and make setup much easier. The presets include:

  • Family coordinator for household chores, keep track of family events, and manage household tasks.
  • Tutor that can help with homework, quizzes, learning, and planning study time.
  • Group organiser to coordinate trips, get-togethers, and activities with multiple people.
  • Marketing agent for creating social media posts, newsletters, and campaign ideas.
  • Finance agent to help track your spending and remind you when bills are due.

When will you get custom AI agents?

At the time of writing, custom AI agents are limited to Google Workspace and Enterprise accounts through the web interface. However, because these new mobile agents appear to focus on personal tasks such as family planning and finances, there is growing speculation that Google could eventually make the feature available to all Gemini users, including those on the free plan.

Google has not officially confirmed any rollout plans. Since the feature is still under development, its final design, availability, and supported options could change before a public release.
