GitHub has announced a limited time offer that lets users get a physical CD of one of their public repositories. The Microsoft-owned company says the offer gives developers a new way to keep a copy of their code outside the cloud. According to GitHub, each CD will include a burnt copy of a user’s public repository. It is designed to be a keepsake that people can store, share with others, or collect. The announcement comes only a few days after PlayStation said it will stop making physical game discs starting in January 2028, marking a different direction for digital and physical media.
SurveyGitHub recently posted on X that it is offering a limited-time chance for users to sign up and receive a free burnt CD containing their public repositories. The offer is available from July 2, 2026, to July 6, 2026. However, signing up does not guarantee that you will receive a CD.

The company clarified that the supplies are limited, and only the first 1,000 eligible submissions will receive a CD. Moreover, they have also placed a limit of one CD per person. Shipping availability will depend on the user’s country or region, and GitHub says it will inform users if delivery is not possible in their location.

If you want to grab a physical disc that contains your public repo, then you need to act fast. To do so, you need to head to the GitHub Presents: Your Code, On a CD form. Once there, you need to fill out the general information like your username, link to the public repo you need as a physical disc, full name, email, country, shipping address and phone number. Now, recheck all the details and submit the form.
Now, you can just wait and pray that you’re one of the first 1,000 eligible submissions, as only then will you receive a disc. Furthermore, even if you’re selected, it’s important to note that it can still take a few weeks for the CD to arrive, and delivery depends on regional shipping availability.
