The passengers departing on international flights from Indian airports will no longer need to get their physical boarding pass stamped during immigration clearance starting. The new rule is said to come into effect starting September 1. According to a report, international travellers will now be able to use e-boarding passes on their smartphones for immigration clearance. Authorities pointed out that airport procedures are simpler and faster, while reducing problems caused by unclear or incorrect stamps on boarding passes. However, passengers who are more comfortable with paper documents can continue to carry physical boarding passes.
Hindustan Times recently reported that, according to an internal communication, the Bureau of Immigration has decided to do away with the mandatory requirement for physical boarding passes and the stamping of boarding passes at immigration counters at all international airports in the country.
According to the report, the internal communication says, ‘The matter has been examined by the Bureau of Immigration, and it has now been decided to do away with the mandatory requirement of physical boarding passes and the stamping of boarding passes at immigration counters at all international airports in the country.’

Currently, the international passengers are required to carry a physical boarding pass at the immigration counters. Following which the concerned officials check the documents of the travellers. In some cases, immigration officials stamp the boarding pass after checking the passenger’s details.
However, under the new system, the passengers will be allowed to use e-boarding passes as a valid document to present during the immigration clearance process. Travellers can simply show the boarding pass on their mobile phones instead of carrying a printed copy for this step. Moreover, it’s also reported that neither a digital nor a physical pass will be stamped during the immigration process under new rules. According to the Hindustan Times, the new rule will come into effect starting September 1.

If you’re wondering how you can download your boarding pass online, then you just need to open a web browser and go to the airline’s web check-in page. Now you’ll be required to enter your PNR number and mobile number or/and email address. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete check-in and pick your seat. Following that your boarding pass will be generated. You can download it from the website or can opt to receive it by mail or WhatsApp.
