An incredible 1.23 million copies of Modern Warfare 2 have been picked up by consumers in UK, breaking previous record help by GTA IV with 609K units. This of course makes MW2 the fastest selling video game in UK history. The sales figure was posted by MCV (UK) based on sales data they procured from official GfK-ChartTrack data.
Industry analysts are estimating an even more incredible global sell-through figure, surpassing even the most optimistic estimates. Ben Schachter, an analyst with Broadpoint AmTech used sales data of GTA IV and performance of past FPS releases in UK and US, to conclude that MW2 has sold a whooping 7 million units in the first 24 hours, since its launch. He further goes on to add that the strong performance of MW2 in UK can be attributed to “…heavy discounting and competition amongst supermarket stores in the U.K…”
