It's called Nexus War and features a collaboration with Marvel

This season has a more superhero-themed storyline

The new season of Fortnite is here and it is called ‘Nexus War’. In this season of Fortnite, Epic Games have collaborated with Marvel to give users a superhero-themed storyline. Some of the biggest Marvel superheroes are now a part of Fortnite to help save the island from the super-villain, Galactus.

Story and Battle Pass

We have known that Fortnite will be crossing over with Marvel for the past week when Epic released an in-game comic book expanding on the storyline. The power of the Fortnite island attracted both Thor and Galactus and from the trailer, we see that Thor uses the Bifrost to bring his superhero friends including Mystique, Dr Doom, Storm, She-Hulk, Groot, Wolverine and Iron Man into the game. Thor drops his iconic hammer, Mjolnir, on the Fortnite map and created a crater somewhere near Salty Springs. All the above-mentioned superheroes, except Wolverine, are available in the Battle Pass. Epic Games has teased that Wolverine will be made available later in the season, possibly as the secret Battle Pass skin, but “he won’t come quietly.”

Map Changes

Keeping in line with the Marvel theme, the new spawn island is an Avengers Helicarrier, and we see Quinjets flying around the map or crashed on the island. Superhero abilities are also available on the Fortnite map as items. This includes the ability to use Iron Man’s thrusters to fly, She-Hulk’s enormous leap, Groot’s ability to turn into a ball of roots or Dr Doom’s Gauntlets. Speaking of Doctor Doom, he is a new boss on the Fortnite Map and has renamed Pleasant Parks to “Doom’s Domain”, his new home. Like previous bosses, he drops a keycard to the loot vault located in the spy base below Doom’s Domain. Tony Stark’s Iron Patriots and Supply Drones are scattered around the map and can be shot down to drop loot.

Vaultings, Unvaultings and Additions

This season has also seen tons of new vaultings including the Tac Shotgun, Flare Gun, Stink Bombs, Decoy Grenades, Rapid Fire & Regular SMG, Epic Hunting Rifle, Epic Pistol and Launch Pads. There has also been plenty of unvaulting. The Pump Shotgun, as well as the Combat Shotguns, are making a comeback. Tactical SMGs and Scoper ARs are also unvaulted. Many items including Boogie Bombs, Shockwave Grenades and Bounce Pads can also be found on the map.

A new ‘Fire Trap’ has been added to the game which deals damage to nearby players and spits fireballs. There are new edible Floppers that include the Mechanic, Battle, Thermal, Shield, Jelly, Hop, and the Fire Flopper. They heal and gain you shields depending on the type. Some of these fish are very rare and can only be caught with the brand new Pro Fishing Rod. A new Midas Fish has been tipped to be added to the game in the future which will turn all your loot to Legendary.

A brand new weapon called the Stark Industries Energy Rifle can be picked up by players. This weapon is carried by Tony Stark’s Iron Patriots and can be looted from their bodies once shot down.

This new seasonal update is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Epic has confirmed that the new season will not be available to mobile players on iOS and Android because Epic Games is as at loggerheads with both Apple and Google. To know more about it click here. The update size on PS4 is 11.3 GB, Xbox is 12 GB and PC is 21 GB. The season is expected to last 10 weeks until November 30 and will likely be the last season before the next generation consoles launch in Holiday 2020.
