New Nokia app helps users find jobs in the US
Now aim your Nokia Lumia smartphone at a building to see the internships/ job opportunities inside.
The new Nokia Lumia app developed by Internship Lens, will show internships available inside a building. Nokia has tied up with internships.com which lists 45,000 different companies across the US to show more than 75,000 internship listings, making job searches easy.
The Nokia app uses augmented reality, a technology that overlays information on a real-world display, to show internship listings. Users are able to browse for opportunities on a map, and the app also connects the professional via social media websites like LinkedIn and Facebook to identify people who might be able make an introduction to the hiring manager which will increase users’ chances of getting a job.
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, nearly half of internships in the United States turned into full-time jobs this year. This app will certainly help create job opportunities for users.
Bryan Biniak, a vice president at Nokia, said in a telephone interview from Espoo in Finland, “You’re able to point your phone at a building and see the jobs available at companies there, and also the people you know at that company. People are often looking for a place near their home, or along the transportation line. It might be a friend or family member or your friend’s dad who works at that company.”
Nokia has a similar app called Job Lens for users in the U.S., Canada and the Britain, which has similar features but for full-time positions. Biniak added that the motivation for creating the app was to expand the number of unique apps available for Nokia Lumia users.
