Jumanji: Epic Run – saving Jumanji from grave peril

Developed by Crazy Labs by TabTale, Jumanji: Epic Run follows the familiar format of endless runner popularised by prominent ones such as Subway Surfers and Temple Run. In fact, the very core mechanics of the game are heavily borrowed from both games, but Crazy Labs has managed to insert enough novelties in the gameplay to keep us from dismissing it as a straight rip-off.

Essentially, your character, which can be one out of the four beloved characters from the films – Dr Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Prof “Shelly” Oberon and “Mouse” Finbar, are tasked with saving Jumanji from a grave peril. The sacred Falcon Jewel was stolen by some dacoits and it falls upon us to retrieve it. All the graphics are decent, and each detail is accurate. The background story to the game is basically, you’re just a high school student who travels to an absolutely different time and space where you become a superhero. And to get back to your own world, you must complete all the tasks in the game. You must fight hard against your enemies, and collect all the power-ups along the way to multiply your fighting capabilities.

Jumanji: Epic Run Gameplay

The controls are extremely straightforward, making use of simple swipes to dodge the vast array of obstacles such as boulders, trees, animals and even arrows shot by the accomplices of the dacoit. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t seem to be extremely well-optimised since we witnessed multiple occasions when swipes completely failed to register, or double-registered, leading to our eventual demise. The fluidity is severely compromised as you advance through the run and the obstacles increase considerably. Nevertheless, when the controls do register the game beats the mundanity of the typical endless runner by inducting a sh%t ton of additional terrains and boosts. The terrain is not always flat, and in fact it tests your reactions. For example, the gameplay seamlessly moves into a waterfall where you need to dodge the boulders or a cliff where you need to mind the rolling boulders. Also, the boosts include ones such as throwing boomerangs at the enemies, mowing them down with a trailblazer and more. It keeps the gameplay dynamic and exciting and has you hitting retry over and over again.

Jumanji: Epic Run Verdict

Overall towards the end of the game you will find yourself to be powerful and invincible. You will find great ways by yourself to finish all tasks and win the final award of coming back to real life! Glitchiness aside, it’s a fun ride.
