Trivia

1. Katrina had claimed she deserved a national award for her role but it was mocked later as she hardly had anything powerful to do in the film.
2.The scene around the car bomb that goes off at about 2h 14m in the movie is similar to the scene in Mario Puzo's "The Sicilian" where Michael's wife gets killed.
3. Vivek Oberoi was signed for Arjun Rampal's s role but opted out.
4. According to the film's co-writer Anjum Rajabali, this film is hugely influenced by the epic story from the Indian mythology the "Mahabharat" and is set in the milieu of contemporary electoral politics. So the film's characters are going to have similar dilemmas and experiences drawn from the story of Mahabharat.
5. This was Ranbir and Katrina's second film together after the super hit film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani
6. Raajneeti was first denied a certificate by the censor board of India for their thought that the lead character played by Katrina Kaif is inspired fully or partially by the Congress Party's chief Sonia Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal's chief Rabri Devi. Director Prakash Jha dismissed this allegation, saying his only inspiration was Mahabharata, an epic from ancient India.
7. It's all based on Godfather Michael Corleone's life due to he was going to study professor even Micheal who was trying to become Senator. And later due to his father he committed himself in the field which his father left.
8. Sanjay Dutt had signed the film when Prakash Jha announced it in 2004. When the film got delayed Sanjay opted out.
9. Ajay Devgan's character was influenced by the Indian epic Mahabharata's character 'Karna' who was the child of Sun god, that is why his character's name has been kept 'sooraj' which means sun itself.
10. The promotions mostly were on Ranbir and Katrina, Ajay Devgn wasn't happy with his role and walked out of Arakshan but worked in Satyagraha.
11. Prakash Jha wanted Manoj Bajpai to do Arjun Rampal's role. Prakash told Manoj that the role was very big. Manoj insisted he does another role as he felt the role he eventually played was better and more challenging.
12. The story draws parallels to the epic Mahabharata where shades of Arjuna (Kapoor), Karna (Devgn), Krishna (Patekar), Bhima (Rampal), Duryodhana (Bajpai), and Draupadi (Kaif) can be seen in the characters portrayed.
13. Nana Patekar and Naseeruddin Shah finally after so many years, acted together. But the shot taken was from a far distance ( the stage scene).
