Trivia

1. Whilst shooting in the heat, the cast/crewmember used to bring an umbrella over Amitabh Bachchan. He would move away from the shade of the umbrella, and when he was asked why he didn't want to come under the shade from the blistering heat, Bachchan replied he didn't want to get used to such things whilst working.
2. Ajay Devgun was the original choice to play one of the main characters, but he was unavailable due to his other commitments, so the role was offered to Saif Ali Khan.
3. The music score was done by Hollywood technicians in New York.
4. Saif Ali Khan found his lines challenging as he isn't very fluent in speaking pure Hindi, and hasn't done any roles in the past that have had to mouth such dialogs.
5. The reason why Amitabh Bachchan's office had a picture of Krishna Raja was there to show his ideology was as strong as Krishna Raja.
6. The whole movie was wrapped up within 3 months in one long schedule in Bhopal, the shoot was complete before the expected date.
7. The movie landed in controversy before it was released, the Dalits (a lower Hindu caste) had found some of the dialog offensive and had protested to either remove these dialogs or they would stop the film from releasing. Prakash Jha took his stand and defended that the film has no intention to offend any caste, and subsequently got the film released with some changes to the script.
8. Prakash Jha had the script in mind 7 years before starting the film.
9. Chhannulal Mishra normally refuses the regular film songs, but he realized this was a very special track and he agreed to sing for the movie.
10. The finest teachers were hired to train the lead cast how to make their characters believable.
11. After the success of Rajneeti, Prakash Jha wanted to recast Ajay Devgn, Katrina kaif, and Ranbir Kapoor in lead but all of them opted out due to prior commitments hence Saif, Deepika and Prateik were approached
12. During the shooting, Amitabh came to know that Prakash Jha s cousin Piku Jha use to perform in University plays with Amitabh in the early 1960s.

14. In preparation for their roles, Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan learned teaching skills in mathematics from Bihar's Super 30 founder Anand Kumar.
15. The film was banned in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh before its theatrical release. The Punjab government banned the film on fears that certain scenes and dialogues in the film may inflame the passion of some communities in Punjab. Mayawati government banned the film in UP for two months on grounds that it could create law and order problems in the state.
