The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recently shared detailed draft guidelines on using artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly in the country’s telecom networks and services. The authorities reportedly plan to make sure that AI is used in a fair, open and safe way as more telecom companies start relying on it. TRAI wants AI in telecom to be used responsibly

With the new draft, the authorities aim to promote responsible AI adoption across India's telecommunications sector. The regulator has made it clear that the telecom sector needs its own guidelines to put the national AI governance framework into practice. The draft rules aim to give businesses and others in the sector more clarity about what is expected of them and who is responsible for what.

Not only that, but TRAI has also decided to hold a stakeholder consultation first so that the industry participants can also have their say before the guidelines are finalised and applied.

India’s AI governance guidelines are the base

According to the Ministry of Communications, the latest draft is based on the India AI Governance Guidelines released by the government in February 2026. The national framework is built around seven key principles, known as sutras which includes trust, putting people first, encouraging innovation, fairness and equality, accountability, making AI easy to understand, and ensuring safety, resilience and sustainability.

Part 4 of the national guidelines provides practical advice for companies and regulators. It explains their roles and responsibilities so that everyone involved in the AI ecosystem has a clear understanding of what is expected of them.

The Ministry stated that the telecom is a big part of India’s digital backbone, as the telecom networks keep people connected, support essential online services, trade and business, and help run critical information infrastructure.

Cursor, an AI-powered software development environment and coding agent has recently warned the users about Anthropic's Claude Code extension. The company added that the malicious version of the extension was not developed by Anthropic but has affected over 5,000 Cursor users. As per the company, the harmful code could collect details about you and try to create a hidden way for attackers to access it remotely. Cursor also confirmed that they have removed the package, shut down the server used in the attack and found no evidence that other extensions were altered. However, they have also directed users to check their devices just so that they can ensure that they are safe.

Cursor security incident: What happened?

According to a blog post from Cursor, the company has found a fake version of Anthropic’s Claude Code extension on the Cursor VS Code extension marketplace. The malicious extension goes by the name Anthropic.claude-code version 2.1.313 and was available between 2:27 am and 1:35 pm Pacific Time on October 29.

We identified a security incident affecting a modified Claude Code VS Code extension accessed through our Cursor IDE extension marketplace, impacting at most 5,000 users. This malicious version of the extension was not developed by Anthropic. It does not impact other extensions downloaded from the https://t.co/sJRGX5jLXW, Grok Bot, Grok or our other SpaceXSI products. In response, we took down our extension marketplace this afternoon, worked with relevant providers to neutralize the malware, and have reinstated the marketplace after confirming there is no further risk. If affected, please review instructions in this blog post to understand how to find the malicious package and establish a path to mitigate any potential impact. The blog post also stated that once the extension is installed, it tries to collect information such as the computer's name, username, operating system, working folders, Git email address and public IP address.

What's more concerning that, it also tried to add an unauthorised security key to the computer and create a hidden remote connection which could work as a gateway for the hackers to infiltrate your device. Furthermore, the bugged extension also installed background programmes that could keep trying to establish this connection even after the extension was removed.

Anthropic's involvement

Anthropic is not directly involved in the breach, as Cursor itself has confirmed that the malicious extension was not developed by Anthropic. Moreover, there is currently no evidence that Anthropic has officially distributed the extension or other versions of the extension affected.

Cursor security incident: Are you at risk

The company has confirmed that the users who installed or updated to the Anthropic Claude code version 2.1.313 through Cursor's Extension Marketplace during the affected period are at risk. While the exact number of affected users is still unknown, the company estimates that up to 5,000 users may have been affected. Cursor also confirms that it will contact impacted users directly to ensure that the data is safe.

What should you do?

To ensure that you're safe start by checking your device for an unauthorised SSH key labelled svc-telemetry. Not only that, but Cursor has also provided separate checking and removal instructions for macOS and Windows users.

If the key is found, you should remove the malicious files and background programs using Cursor's official remediation scripts. Furthermore, you should also change passwords, access keys and other login details from a trusted, unaffected device.

Cursor has also warned that simply uninstalling the extension may not be enough, as harmful background programs could continue running.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has updated a host of new voice-only recharge plans on its website. Several organisations, including e-Mudhra and State Bank of India (SBI), have recently faced security-related concerns and data leak reports. Electronics retailer Vijay Sales has allegedly suffered a major data breach, with a threat actor claiming to have obtained super administrator access to its internal systems. The actor is reportedly offering this access for $25,000 on the dark web. 

Meanwhile, AU Small Finance Bank is investigating a potential data leak involving a third-party software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform hosted by Salesforce. A hacking group called ScarlettGroup has reportedly claimed responsibility for breaching the bank and has threatened to leak sensitive information. The bank has clarified that its own systems remain unaffected and banking services are operating normally.

Vijay Sales has reportedly suffered a major cybersecurity breach after a threat actor claimed to have gained super administrator access to the electronics retailer's internal systems. According to a post shared by Dark Web Informer on X, an actor operating under the handle 'shinymontanna' is offering the alleged access for $25,000.

The listing claims that the compromised systems contain millions of business records and sensitive information belonging to customers, employees and vendors. The actor has also reportedly shared screenshots showing administrative dashboards and super administrator permissions to support the claims. 

What data has been compromised in the Vijay Sales breach?

The alleged breach involves more than 3 million order records, information relating to approximately 15,000 employees and billing records for around 140,000 vendors. The reported access covers several internal business systems and applications.

The information allegedly available includes customer details, payment records, bank transfer information, inventory data and financial reports. The threat actor also claims to have read, write and export permissions. 

If these claims are accurate, the incident could expose a significant amount of business and customer information. 

Why is the alleged super administrator access a serious concern?

Super administrator access is one of the highest levels of permission within an organisation's IT environment. It can allow a user to manage accounts, access sensitive information, change system settings and control other user permissions. In this case, the threat actor claims that the advertised access includes read, write and export capabilities.

If true, such access can create risks beyond the theft of existing information. An attacker with these permissions may modify business records, extract databases, interfere with internal applications or create additional unauthorised accounts.

According to The Hacker News, the flaw, combined with the information-leak bug and an Android root exploit, could be used to gain full access to a smartphone, including the camera, microphone and messages. The flaw can be triggered in Telegram versions ranging from 8.6.2 to 12.10.3. As per the security startup, there is no evidence of the flaw impacting Telegram iOS or web users or group calls.

If a user’s call privacy settings are set to “Nobody” and they decline unknown calls, the flaw will not affect them. Plus, the cybersecurity company said the cases of the flaw being used to attack people have not been reported so far. When NebuSec reached out to Telegram, the platform reportedly acknowledged the report but did not consider the flaw to be a remote code execution vulnerability.

Homegrown phone maker Karbonn is set to re-enter India’s smartphone market. The company announced it will re-enter the smartphone space to “re-establish” its presence and is aiming to target young Indians this time. Pradeep Jain, CEO and MD of Jaina Group (Karbonn’s parent) , hints at “curated devices”, which could imply a series or set of gadget launches. With the second innings, the company is expected to position its devices in the struggling budget segment, aiming to fill the void of decent options created by the current RAM and storage crisis.

With the move, Karbonn will cater to Gen Z buyers, content creators and students, among its other target audience. For the unversed, Karbonn and other India-based smartphone brands such as Micromax, Spice and others witnessed a massive decline in sales and market share with the arrival of the Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and more in 2014 and the rise of the Samsung Galaxy lineup during the same period.

NIKKOR Z lens: India price and availability

The NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S made its debut in the Indian market with a price tag of Rs 14,99,995 and the interested buyers will be able to get it from mid-November 2026. The company has also clarified that it will be available through Nikon India outlets and the company’s official website.

OnePlus launched its OnePlus 16 smartphone in China earlier this month. While the brand remains silent on an India debut, the rumour mill continues to churn out hints that the company may be gearing up to launch the device in the country. While details are yet to be confirmed via official channels, the phone could compete with Apple’s iPhone 17 and Vivo's base X series flagship: X300 FE. If rumours are to be considered, OnePlus 16 (256GB) could launch in the over Rs 1 lakh price category, likely in the range of Rs 1.1.-1.2 lakh. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 and Vivo X300 FE starts at Rs 99,900 (256GB) and Rs 89,999 (256GB) in India.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has revealed that the company’s investments in AI are driving more searches and overall query growth. Speaking during Alphabet’s Q3 2026 earnings call, Pichai said the company recorded its highest year-on-year search query growth rate in five years. He credited AI features for increasing usage. Alphabet’s revenue grew 25 per cent year-on-year, reaching a $500 billion annual run rate. Google Cloud revenue also rose 103 per cent, supported by strong demand for AI infrastructure and services. 

AI is changing how people use Google Search

Pichai said Google is working to bring AI Overviews, AI Mode and traditional Search together into one seamless experience. Users are now asking longer and more detailed questions. They are also using voice, images and documents to find information.

According to Pichai, searches made through AI Mode are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. One in five AI Mode searches worldwide involves voice, images or documents. Google has also crossed 50 billion visual searches per month.

Gemini AI sees strong growth

Google’s Gemini app has reached one billion users, making it the fastest-growing product in the company’s history.

Pichai also highlighted the growing use of Google’s latest AI models. The company’s Gemini 4 Argon model saw strong demand after its launch. On developer platforms, usage during its first week grew three-and-a-half times faster than Gemini 3, despite limited capacity.

Google has also introduced Gemini 4 Carbon, which Pichai described as its strongest frontier model. The company is initially making it available to selected cybersecurity experts before expanding access.

Pichai said AI is also helping Google’s own employees work faster. "At Google, just in the last few weeks, teams across Chrome, Ads, and Search have used Argon to write and optimise code much faster, shipping 35% more code with 30% fewer errors," he said.

Google Cloud and YouTube continue to grow

Google Cloud revenue increased 103 per cent. This growth was led by the company's AI infrastructure and solutions. Pichai said Google is working to increase capacity to meet demand.

Meanwhile, YouTube remains the leading streaming platform in the US based on television watch time. The company has also surpassed 150 million YouTube Music and Premium subscribers worldwide, including trial users.

"We’re at the point where AI is helping us increase our training and launch velocity. I would expect the next 12 months to see continued acceleration because of RSI," Pichai said.

He also said that Google will launch more models soon, including more efficient versions to help developers optimise for speed and cost.

iQOO is reportedly gearing up to unveil its next-generation flagship device in the Indian market. While the company has not yet officially announced anything, a tipster recently suggested that the smartphone could land in the middle of December. Not only that, previous leaks and rumours pointed out that the smartphone could house a 6.85-inch display, a Snapdragon chipset and a triple 50MP camera setup at the back. The iQOO 16 is said to come equipped with a 6.85-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate. The display is also expected to reach a peak brightness of 10,000 nits. The handset may also get IP68 and IP69 ratings to keep it protected against dust and water.

The upcoming device is anticipated to draw its power from Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and may get paired with an Adreno 850 GPU and a dedicated Q4 gaming chip. Furthermore, rumours suggest that the device may house up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra Pro RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage options.

Out of the box, the smartphone may run on OriginOS 7, which is an Android 17-based skin. Grand Theft Auto VI, the highly anticipated successor to GTA V, is all set to launch on November 19 for eligible gaming consoles. Ahead of the release, GamesRadar’s Edge magazine posted 12 new screenshots and a conversation with Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s co-studio head, to reveal more details about the hyped gaming title. The news report noted that GTA 6 opens in a small apartment of Jason and Lucia when Nelson plays the current build.

The map is said to be twice as large as GTA V, and the total landmass of the game is almost as big as the maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Plus, the density and magnitude of interiors are also richly detailed. The 12 new screenshots feature Jason and Lucia with weapons, aquatic life, forest, cityscape and more.

GTA 6 is said to have character reactions to unpleasant smells and disgust. Plus, the in-game NPCs have more personality traits. Moreover, the story will develop based on the criminal profile of the switchable characters Jason and Lucia. The game is said to begin with an emotional backdrop of both protagonists, and their bonding can be tracked on four levels.  Players will have the chance to influence their criminal record and relationship. The report also noted that RDR 2 will have a notable influence on GTA 6’s storytelling.

As for the crime pursuits, the police in GTA 6 will have dogs accompanying them. If a player tries to steal a car, the motorist might fight back. Some cars are also said to have trackers and theft alarms. A criminal profiling system and threats to enemies before taking lethal measures may also be a part of the game. Meanwhile, GTA 6 is currently available to pre-order for Sony PS5 and PS5 Pro and Microsoft Xbox Series X and S. The PC release is expected next year in the first quarter.

Microsoft expects very few employees to accept its latest voluntary buyout offer, despite extending it to around 60,000 workers. Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood explained the reason in an internal memo. She said the programme gives workers the choice to leave the company voluntarily, but added that Microsoft continues to offer strong growth opportunities. The offer is available to eligible employees in participating teams across India, the US, the UK and Canada. 

"I know there have been some questions on the rationale behind the voluntary exit offer that we announced this week," Hood wrote in the memo, according to Business Insider. "Our intent is to offer employees agency if they choose to leave the company on their own terms. We expect very few people to select this offer because of the growth opportunities here at Microsoft."

Hood sends internal memos to employees every quarter when Microsoft announces its financial results. These messages usually cover information shared publicly by the company. However, they also offer a glimpse into the issues that Microsoft executives want employees to focus on.

The latest buyout programme follows a separate retirement offer introduced by Microsoft earlier this year. At that time, around one-third of eligible employees reportedly accepted the offer.

The benefits under the new voluntary exit programme depend on an employee's internal level and length of service. According to the report, employees at level 64 and below are being offered one week of base pay for every six months of service. Employees at levels 65 to 67 are eligible for two weeks of base pay for every six months of service. However, standard severance payments for employees at level 67 and below are capped at 39 weeks of base pay.

The package also includes continued stock vesting and health insurance benefits. For employees at level 67 and below, stock-vesting benefits cover six or 12 months, depending on their years of service. Employees at level 68 receive a standard severance package that includes 12 months of salary.

Eligible employees reportedly have until early December to decide whether to accept the offer. The company has not announced plans for another buyout programme at this time.

OpenAI announced Dots at its DevDay 2026 developer conference this year. And in an attempt to improve the user experience of the feature, the company is now rolling out texting with Dots via iMessage or Rich Communication Services (RCS). In a post on X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT’s official account announced that users can text their dot using the two messaging services. Users can give the AI a task using via texts, images or audio notes. As a result, dots can text the user back with the required response.

OpenAI noted the conversation can be exchanged only between the user and their dot. No other third entity can text the dot. This feature is rolling out as a preview for Pro users in the United States. The ChatGPT maker said users can set it up via the dot's profile and by choosing the 'Texting' option.

In this case, the dot will carry forward the context and plugins that it already has to deliver results in conversations. "This doesn’t give your dot or OpenAI access to your other text conversations," OpenAI said. In the video demo shared by ChatGPT, a dot named "Iggy" can be seen prompting the user that their internet transfer request is pending. Since the advertised person has to move to another place, the dot asks the user whether they should start the connection transfer process on their behalf.

Not just that, Iggy also recommends that it can check for any promotions to lower the bill. With the move, OpenAI aims to connect ChatGPT dots with the tools that a user "already" uses (in this case, iMessage and RCS texting). Since the feature is undergoing testing, the company is also inviting feedback on the feature.

At DevDay 2026, OpenAI announced that dots are powered by GPT-6 Astra and have their own cloud computer. It can work 24x7 and connect to over 4,000 apps to offer help to users. While it is still in preview for iMessage and RCS, dots is available in Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise in select markets.

Google has unveiled Gemini 4 Carbon, its latest AI model with improved coding, reasoning and cybersecurity capabilities. The company says the model delivers a significant improvement in finding software vulnerabilities, testing potential attacks and fixing security flaws. Google claims Carbon has also secured the top position on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0, with a score of 59. It builds on Gemini 4 Argon, which Google introduced about two weeks ago. The company says the new model can handle complex engineering tasks that may take days to complete. However, Google is taking a cautious approach to the AI model's rollout. 

Google Gemini 4 Carbon: Key capabilities

Google describes Gemini 4 Carbon as its "strongest model with state-of-the-art cybersecurity and long horizon capabilities” and says it delivers a “significant leap in cybersecurity capabilities.”

The tech giant said Gemini 4 Carbon brings improvements across the cybersecurity process, from finding weaknesses in software to developing fixes. It scored 88.2 per cent on SEC-bench Pro, a benchmark that tests how well AI models identify software vulnerabilities. It also achieved 54.8 per cent on ExploitGym, which measures the ability to test whether security flaws can be exploited.

Google also claimed Carbon performs better at generating secure code. "The Chrome team has reported that Carbon performed more than 10X better than another lab's large frontier model when generating high quality patches," it added.

The company's internal tests showed a nearly 80 per cent drop in high-severity misalignment alerts in live coding environments. Google also said Carbon resisted all evaluated prompt-injection attacks, recording a 0 per cent attack success rate in the tested benchmark.

Google Gemini 4 Carbon: Availability

Google is initially making Gemini 4 Carbon available to a select group of cybersecurity experts. Access will gradually expand to other trusted partners through its Fairwind Program. The company said it is working through the US government's voluntary process for testing the AI model before release. 

Amazon has cut about 250 jobs in its devices and services division, marking another round of layoffs at the company this month. The affected roles are mainly in software development, reports Reuters, citing a person familiar with the matter. Employees were informed about the decision through emails and text messages sent early Wednesday morning. The latest layoffs come just weeks after Amazon introduced new Kindle e-readers and tablet computers. The company also announced a new Alexa-powered alarm clock and photo frame on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, an Amazon spokesperson said the company had taken the "difficult decision" to remove a small number of roles. The spokesperson added that the cuts would help the company work more efficiently and align its teams with its product plans. The company did not share further details about the number of employees affected.

In an internal message, Cherie Robinson, a human resources vice president in Amazon's devices and services division, said the company had reviewed its organisational structure. The review led to the decision to reduce the workforce.

The latest cuts follow another round of layoffs that happened at Amazon earlier this month. At the time, the company eliminated fewer than 1,000 jobs across areas such as customer service, marketplace support and engineering. Employees in India were also affected. Amazon said the changes were made to help its Stores business move faster and focus on its priorities.

“We’ve adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities. As part of these changes, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transition,” the company had said.

Amazon eliminated around 30,000 jobs late last year and early this year as part of its wider cost-cutting efforts. At the same time, it is increasing its investment in AI and related infrastructure. Amazon is said to be preparing to spend a record $220 billion on data centres, chips and other infrastructure linked to AI. 

The latest job cuts by Amazon highlight the company' s ongoing efforts to streamline its operations while continuing to invest heavily in AI. 

Google has recently kicked off its Android Dev Summit 2026, where they announced several things, including the expansion of its AI ecosystem across smart glasses, search, and web browsing. The tech giant also shared new details about the XREAL Aura and Android XR-powered smart glasses while confirming that its connected apps platform will help businesses bring their services to Search and Gemini. Meanwhile, Chrome has started rolling out an AI-powered autofill feature that retrieves relevant information from Gmail to help users complete online forms. XREAL Aura smart glasses bring Android XR to users

Google announced XREAL Aura, which combines display glasses with a separate compute puck that clips to a user’s waistband. The glasses weigh under 95 grams and feature Sony micro-OLED displays with a 120 Hz refresh rate. They also offer a 70-degree field of view, built-in Bose speakers and adjustable electrochromic dimming.

The device is powered by a Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset, and users can interact through voice commands, hand tracking, a trackpad, keyboards, and game controllers. It also supports spatial tracking and wired connections to laptops and gaming consoles.

XREAL Aura will launch with 150 XR experiences. Preorders start today, October 28, at XREAL.com and, in the US, Best Buy. Availability is initially planned for the United States, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, and shipping is expected to begin in mid-November.

The regular price is $1,279 (approx. Rs 121,000) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model and $1,499 (approx. Rs 142,000) for the 16GB RAM and 512GB version. Through December, XREAL is offering launch pricing of $1,099 (approx. Rs 104,000) and $1,299 (approx. Rs 123,000), respectively.

Google Connected Apps Platform expands Search and Gemini

Google’s Connected Apps Platform allows businesses and developers to connect their services to Google Search and Gemini. Developers can integrate their apps using a cloud-hosted Model Context Protocol server or Android MCP with AppFunctions APIs, then register, test, and submit them through the Google Connected Console.

Once approved, developers can choose where their apps appear (Search, Gemini, or both) and monitor traffic and error rates. Google says it has launched more than 50 connected apps across Search and Gemini. Partners such as Adobe, Experian, Localiza, and Peloton are already live in Gemini, and Google plans to bring these integrations to Search in the coming weeks. A new Calm integration will launch across both. The platform is in preview, and developers can sign up now, with access widening in phases.

Chrome AI autofill uses Gmail to complete online forms

Google is also updating Chrome with enhanced autofill that can suggest information found in Gmail. This includes order numbers, package tracking details, and flight bookings. It works alongside the details Enhanced Autofill already handles things such as addresses and payment cards, which come from your Google Account and services like Google Wallet rather than Gmail.

The feature builds on Google’s Personal Intelligence efforts to make connected services more useful. Users can enable or disable enhanced autofill through Chrome settings, and Google says sensitive information is encrypted. It requires Gemini in Chrome with Personal Intelligence turned on. Do note that at the time of writing the feature is rolling out to users in the United States on desktop, Android, and iOS.

Touch-screen MacBook Pro: India price

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chipset is priced at Rs 3,49,900, while the 16-inch model debuted for Rs 4,09,900.

For the users who are opting for the M5 Max chipset, the 14-inch model costs Rs 5,49,900, and the 16-inch model is priced at Rs 5,89,900.

Apple is also offering education discounts for eligible college students and educators. With education savings, the 14-inch M5 Pro model starts at Rs 3,31,900, while the 16-inch version starts at Rs 3,85,900. The M5 Max models start at Rs 5,12,900 and Rs 5,52,900, respectively.

Apple MacBook Pro: Availability in India

Apple has started taking pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro through its website and Apple Store app in supported countries. Furthermore, the tech giant confirms that the laptop will be available at Apple Stores and authorised sellers in November.

Android Authority claims the eSIM setup connector is working on Pixel 9 on the “17.70.10.sa.arm64” version of the Google app. If the feature starts rolling out, users may give the AI model clear instructions to set up, transfer or delete an eSIM profile without juggling through menus in the SIM Manager. Plus, this may prove to be a handy feature for users who switch phones quickly, such as reviewers who test smartphones.
