Last year, when we tested the LG OLED G5, we found it to be one of the best OLED TVs for a mainstream audience. And even though it didn’t offer the most authentic colours, everyone, except us testers, seemed to prefer LG’s visual treatment over the competition. It was another interesting example of the difference between critics’ and the public’s reactions to creative work. So, when the LG OLED G6 reached the Digit Test Labs, I decided to look beyond the critical lens when needed and see how much better the new LG TV really is, and whether it has improved enough to be a clear winner for both the critic and the user in me.
In this LG OLED G6 TV review, I will be testing its upgraded reflection handling, colour accuracy with the new Hyper Radiant Color Tech, brightness and black levels from the Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, sound from the new speaker setup, the experience of webOS 26, and more.
In India, the 65-inch LG OLED G6 is currently available for Rs 2.3 lakh. The question, therefore, is not whether the G6 produces a good picture. It does. The more important question is whether its improvements are visible enough to justify spending this much. After spending time with it across movies, television, sports, and games, the answer is mostly yes.
The biggest change with the G6 TV is brightness. LG’s new OLED panel is said to have up to 3.9 times higher peak brightness than conventional OLED in a 3% window with its Brightness Booster Ultra system.
Our Calman Ultimate measurements show just how far the G6 can go with small HDR highlights. At a 1% window, the panel reached around 2,970 nits. It stayed close to that level at 2% and 5% windows. At 10%, brightness was still around 2,850 nits.
The drop becomes more noticeable as more of the screen turns white. We measured roughly 1,300 nits at 25%, around 680 nits at 50%, approximately 510 nits at 75%, and 435.6 nits with a full 100% white window.
The higher peak brightness makes an impact in headlights, sparks, reflections, sunlight, or explosions against a darker background. One of my favourite scenes for testing this is the underwater sequence in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, where Tom Cruise’s character dives to the wreck of a sunken submarine. The scene moves between the almost pitch-black depths of the ocean, the dimly lit interior of the submarine, and sudden bursts of light from his gear and the vessel’s internal lights. At the same time, 435.6 nits across a full-screen white pattern is a useful result for everyday viewing. It means large, bright scenes, such as a cricket pitch, a snowy landscape, or a bright daytime exterior, do not look as restrained as they can on older OLEDs.
In some cases, though, the excess brightness can make a scene or portion of the scene look brighter than it naturally is.
On the other hand, the LG OLED G6 registered 0 cd/m² on a black pattern. This means the TV can produce the deep blacks and extremely high contrast that you buy an OLED for. It was a visual treat to watch dark, nightly, HDR sequences in movies and shows. You see this in The Revenant, where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character emerges from the darkness as a group of horse riders approaches, carrying fire lamps. Most of the frame is extremely dark, while the lamps create small, intense pools of light. There was no blooming or unnecessary lifting of blacks.
But I did notice some banding in the underwater sequence in Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning, when Tom Cruise’s character settles on the oceanbed. So, you realise even the best is not flawless when you look closely.
I saw some colour deviation in skin tones while watching Masters of the Universe (2026). The faces of caucasian actors appeared with a slight reddish tint. In the Calman tests, we saw the G6 isn’t perfectly aligned with the reference across the entire greyscale range. We got an average Delta E of 3 with some luminance error in the Greyscale Multipoint test. But the Colorchecker analysis was more encouraging with a Delta E of 1.84. This is indicative of an overall accurate colour reproduction.

The colour measurements are also strong. Our Calman test recorded 99.35% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut using CIE 1931 xy and 99.45% using CIE 1976 u’v’. BT.709 coverage was 100% in both measurements. These and the 83% BT 2020 coverage are either better or comparable to the LG G5’s scores.
That’s not it. The LG OLED G6 has a lot more good going for it. The Alpha 11 processor’s upscaling also handles lower-quality content reasonably well, without simply adding excessive sharpening.
In sports content, I found the motion is clean, the camera pans across a cricket ground remain stable, and fast-moving players do not leave obvious trails. OLED’s fast pixel response helps here, while LG’s motion processing gives you control over how much smoothing you want.
Another major upgrade this year is LG’s Reflection Free Premium treatment, which is meant to reduce the effect of ambient reflections on the screen. This was evident and should be useful in normal room lighting conditions. The viewing angles are excellent, too.
All in all, the LG OLED G6 is a great TV to watch a good 4K HDR film. The combination of brightness, contrast, and colour becomes difficult to ignore. Dark scenes retain their depth, while bright highlights have enough intensity to look almost physical. Case in point: the above image.
LG has well-equipped the G6 TV for gaming. The panel has a native 120Hz refresh rate but supports VRR up to 165Hz. LG also supports Nvidia G-Sync, AMD FreeSync, ALLM, and Dolby Vision gaming at up to 4K 120Hz. The Game Optimiser interface is useful too. You can change gaming-related settings without leaving the game, which is more practical than repeatedly opening the main settings menu.
For console players, 120Hz is still the more important number. For PC gamers with powerful hardware, however, 165Hz gives the G6 a useful advantage. So, serious gamers, there is ample reason to choose the G6 over a similarly priced cinema-focused television.
This is backed by a reliable connectivity stack. You get four HDMI inputs, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, optical audio, and two RF inputs. HDMI 2 provides eARC, while wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. USB 2.0 is sufficient for most television-related tasks. But as a 2026 flagship, USB 3.0 would have been more appropriate.
The good thing is four HDMI 2.1 inputs, which should be particularly useful for gamers. There is also enough flexibility for a soundbar, streaming box, console, and PC without constantly switching cables.
The LG OLED G6’s Gallery design looks wow on a wall. At just 24.3mm thick, the 65-inch model is unusually slim and is designed to sit flush against the wall. But if you don’t want to mount it on the wall, note that LG doesn’t sell a stand in India.
Similarly, the bundled AI Magic Remote features an ambitious gesture, scroll, and click-based navigation mechanism. This feels unique the first time you use it. I appreciate the pointer for helping me navigate menus and type considerably faster than using a traditional directional pad. The scroll wheel is also useful. But many a time it gets in the way of using the TV. It triggers accidental movements of the cursor and doesn’t always move the pointer as intended. Moreover, for a premium television remote, this unfortunately lacks a backlight.
So, the Magic Remote remains one of the unique TV remotes around. But its shortcomings are erratic and annoying.
The LG OLED G6 runs webOS 26. It is fast, smartly organised, and easy to understand, and LG supports features including Google Cast, Apple AirPlay, Google Home, LG ThinQ, Multi View, and LG Channels. However, getting the most out of the software requires a little more commitment to LG’s ecosystem. You need to sign in with an LG ThinQ account to download additional apps and access several of the TV’s connected features, including AI voice commands. The ThinQ app can also work as a secondary touchscreen remote, which is useful when you want a larger touch-based interface instead of the Magic Remote.
ThinQ also brings mirror and casting capabilities, letting you picture and share sound between the TV and phone, and use the phone as another way to interact with the television. There are also personal recommendations and other connected features that become available once the TV and phone are linked to the same LG account. These features are useful, but there’s a clear push towards using a ThinQ account. And another gripe is with how webOS shows more advertisements and recommendations than you would normally expect. I guess that’s the new normal for modern TVs. You can toggle off many of these things if you find them intrusive.
And as a 2026 TV, there is a concerted push for AI features too. LG’s AI features like AI Concierge, AI Voice ID, and the AI Hub are interesting, but they do not fundamentally change how I use the television. AI voice commands are more useful if they can catch your accent well. And even if they do, I don’t find them a solid reason to buy the TV.
Gladly, webOS itself remains one of the better smart TV platforms. Navigation is quick, apps open without much delay, and the interface is relatively easy to understand.
The more useful long-term feature is LG Shield and the five-year software update commitment through the company’s Re:New programme. It is good to know that a premium TV like this will remain capable and supported for years to come. Good, good!
The LG OLED G6 has a 4.2-channel, 60W speaker system with Dolby Atmos support. LG also includes AI Sound Pro and WOW Orchestra for pairing the TV with a compatible LG soundbar. For most users, the speaker output should be more than adequate. Dialogue is clear, voices remain easy to follow, and there is enough volume for a reasonably large room. The sound also has more body than you might expect from such a thin television.
But if you are buying a flagship OLED TV, you probably have a good soundbar or the money to buy one. A dedicated and capable soundbar can create a huge sense of cinematic scale that a built-in TV speaker would struggle to produce.
Traditionally, peak brightness has been a weakness of OLEDs but LG has solved that with its latest flagships, and the G6 in particular. You are getting a supremely bright display that also delivers the deep blacks you come to expect from an OLED. Save for some exceptions with skin tones, the LG OLED G6 produces very accurate colours, too. Any differences still remaining are subtle and not something I would call a problem.
Sure, as a critic, I can still find certain shortcomings. There is some banding in demanding scenes; brightness can occasionally make parts of an image look more intense than they should, and there are small inconsistencies that become visible when you actively look for them. The Magic Remote can also be erratic, and the software experience isn’t as open as increasingly tied to LG’s ThinQ ecosystem.
But as a user, the LG OLED G6 is much easier to recommend. The extra brightness is genuinely useful, particularly in HDR content and bright rooms. It handles daytime viewing better than many OLEDs, retains the deep blacks that make OLED special, and works equally well for movies, sports, and gaming. The four HDMI 2.1 ports and 165Hz VRR support also make it a very reliable gaming TV. All in all, it offers an impressive experience across a wider range of content and conditions.
So, for Rs 2.3 lakhs, you are getting a plenty bright, versatile, and easier-to-live-with OLED TV that produces a much more natural-looking picture than before. The LG G6 is therefore one of the most complete TVs I have tested this year.
