WiMAX 2 standard to hit market by 2012, deliver 1Gbps theoretical download speed

Updated on 16-Aug-2010

WiMAX 2 seems to be making some buzz, after WiMAX failed to make its domineering presence felt in the market. With Verizon and AT&T adopting the LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard for its network expansion, it seems WiMAX is facing some stiff competition in the 4G arena.

However, the WiMAX 2 (802.16m) standard with a theoretical download speeds touching 1Gbps and an expected practical user bandwidth range hitting 100Mbps, it is likely to beat the existing 4G standard by a convincing margin. If all the set pieces fall in place, the WiMAX 2 standard should get finalized by November 2010 and hit the market by 2012.
