OriginOS 7 update: Chinese smartphone maker Vivo unveiled the next iteration of its smartphone operating system, OriginOS 7, at its Vivo X500 series launch event. The latest skin will be powered by Android 17 and ship with the flagship series out-of-the-box. The company is calling the OS “Smartly Smooth” while focusing on the improved animations. The UI appears to be inspired by Apple’s Liquid Glass interface.

OriginOS 7 will have improved cross-device connectivity with Jovi AI Assistant that can edit PC documents with assisted commands on your phone and extract key details from large chunks of data. Further, AI-based Transcription by Speaker can clean up transcripts and separate speakers. It can also highlight key points, offer insights and summarise them.
The Snap Note feature can turn paper notes, whiteboards, etc., into editable documents without much manual intervention. Smart Call Assistant can answer calls on a user’s behalf, generate a real-time transcription and create an overview of the conversation.
For accessing files that you do not remember the exact name of, AI Search can help you in that case after you have described what you remember about that file. Other customisation-based improvements include Wiggle Theme, Pet Pals Theme, Glint Theme on Lock Screen and Live Updates on Always-On Display.
As for integration with the Apple ecosystem, Office Kit’s Camera Sharing allows using a Vivo phone as a webcam with a MacBook and Task Handoff enables file transfer on iPad. Users will also get the convenience of checking notifications and messages from the Apple Watch, syncing workout and health data to Origin Health and viewing AirPods status at a glance.
Further, the Shake & Share feature will allow batch-sharing of high-resolution photos without the use of mobile data. As for overall security of the device, the Security Shield, Jovi Security and Agent privacy activity logs are part of Vivo’s Security suite.
