Bought Samsung phone at a massive discount? Check how much warranty you will get if it is pre-activated

HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung says warranty coverage will be calculated from the purchase invoice date, regardless of pre-activation status.

In some cases, the Samsung Shop app may initially display incorrect warranty dates, which could update a few days after purchase.

If the dates do not change, buyers should request a replacement or refund if the warranty details remain incorrect.

Samsung devices undergo massive discounts during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days and Amazon’s Great Indian Festival sales that are aligned around the festivities of Diwali. Due to the high volume of purchases during the biggest sale season, social media also gets flooded with reports of pre-activated smartphones being delivered to customers. The South Korean tech giant has now issued a clarification that every potential Samsung smartphone buyer should know. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Samsung India’s support handle responded to a customer who claimed the phone he purchased in the sale was “pre-activated”.

As per the screenshot of the Samsung Shop app shared by the user, the “Manufacturer warranty” is slated to end on June 30, 2027. However, the phone was purchased on October 8, implying less than eight months of warranty remaining.

Samsung’s response on pre-activated Galaxy phones

However, @SamsungIndia clarified that the product warranty will be considered from the date of purchase mentioned in the invoice. “Your product warranty will be considered from the date mentioned on your purchase invoice, regardless of the pre-activation status,“ the company said. As the company has been posting this for multiple similar complaints, this comes as an official word addressing the pressing issue of pre-activated Samsung phones plaguing the Indian smartphone market.

In our experience, the “manufacturer warranty” of a newly purchased Galaxy S25 Edge was displayed as having only three months of warranty remaining in the Samsung Shop app. However, this changed to “confirmed warranty” a few days after the purchase and the date was revised to reflect one-year coverage. However, if these dates do not change for a while, users should file a replacement or refund request on the shopping platforms.

Coming to the current X activity, Samsung did not clarify why the manufacturer warranty is displayed months earlier than the supposed warranty end date in the Shop app. The question remains whether the phone was actually pre-activated before the online sale or if it was an app-specific glitch.

If you have a restricted budget, the Galaxy S25 and S25 FE are available for under Rs 53,000 and Rs 45,000 after offers in the Flipkart Big Billion Days 2026 sale.
