For the last few months, we have been hearing a lot about an OLED MacBook Pro which is apparently set to make its debut either later this year, or early next year. Every now and then, rumours about this upcoming MacBook surface online and get people excited. But before we get excited about what’s coming, it looks like there is news on what has been cancelled. Yes, you read that right. Apple has reportedly called off 2 MacBooks that have been in the works. One of these was a large foldable MacBook, while the other was a larger OLED MacBook that would have sat between the existing MacBook Pro models and the foldable device.
The changes do not mean Apple is moving away from OLED displays, though. According to research firm Omdia, the company still plans to bring OLED screens across its iPad and MacBook lineup. However, Apple appears to have changed which models will get the technology and how they will fit into the lineup. Read on to know more.

First off, let’s talk about the large foldable MacBook. According to Omdia, Apple has scrapped development of a foldable MacBook that would have measured between 16.1 and 18 inches when fully opened.
The device had already faced delays before this latest report. It was previously expected to enter production in 2026, but that timeline had slipped. At the time, however, the product was generally being described as a large-screen foldable iPad rather than a MacBook.
Now, Omdia’s latest research note suggests that Apple has cancelled the project altogether as a MacBook. This would have been one of the biggest changes to the company’s laptop lineup, especially considering the size of the display it was expected to offer.
The second product Apple has reportedly cancelled is an OLED MacBook with a larger screen. According to Omdia, Apple had been working on a MacBook with an OLED display measuring between 14.4 and 16.1 inches. The laptop would have occupied its own space between the existing MacBook Pro sizes and the larger foldable MacBook that has now also been cancelled.
With both products reportedly off the table, the 14.3 to 16.3-inch size range will seemingly remain exclusive to the MacBook Pro lineup.
Despite cancelling these two products, Apple does not appear to be giving up on OLED MacBooks.
As mentioned already, Apple’s broader plan to bring OLED displays to its entire iPad and MacBook lineup remains unchanged according to Omdia. What has changed is which products will receive OLED panels and the specific OLED technology used in those devices.
The company is therefore still expected to expand its use of OLED displays, but its upcoming MacBook lineup could look quite different from what earlier reports had suggested.
