Reliance Jio has launched JioPC as a standalone subscription service in India. The service was earlier limited to JioHome broadband users, but the company has now made it available to all the consumers irrespective of their internet connection. The company said that the feature will allow the users who are running old computers to handle more demanding everyday tasks, as the cloud-based service can provide up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Here’s everything from what JioPC is to the plans and pricing you need to know.
JioPC lets people use cloud computing power while still using their current computer. It’s built for computers that are three to four years old, but Jio says even computers as old as eight years can benefit from it.
Jio says users don’t need to buy new hardware, don’t need to move their existing data, and won’t face any downtime while setting it up. They also say it can be set up in under five minutes.
Jio is marketing this as an alternative to buying a new computer or spending a lot on upgrades. Since most of the heavy work happens on Jio’s cloud servers, older computers can run faster without needing any hardware changes.
Besides helping with hardware limitations, Jio is also promoting this as a way for people to use newer AI-powered apps without upgrading their computers. According to the company, cloud-based computing can help older devices stay useful for longer as software keeps demanding more from computers.
JioPC is offered in two plans based on storage and RAM. The base plan, which comes with 8GB of RAM and 500GB of internal storage, costs Rs 1,000 for two months, Rs 2,000 for five months and Rs 4,000 for 10+2 months. While the Ultra plan, which offers 16GB of RAM and 1TB storage, is priced at Rs 1,200 for two months, Rs 2,500 for five months, and Rs 5,000 for 10+2 months.
