HIGHLIGHTS
In recent times, we have seen humanoid robots do a lot of stuff and a lot of tech players are working on developing humanoids these days. Now a recent breakthrough news is coming from China. A Chinese developer Robot Era has presented its latest creation “STAR 1”. It is a humanoid robot, and why is it special? For its speed! Reports suggest that it can also outperform competitors like Tesla’s “Optimus” and Boston Dynamics’ “Atlas.”
Speaking about the humanoid, the STAR 1 is 5.6 feet tall and weighs 143 pounds. Its USP is its speed and it has set a new record by reaching a top speed of eight miles per hour (around 13 km per hour). This feat makes it the fastest humanoid robot in the world. If you see the promotional video, you can see two STAR 1 robots racing against each other in the Gobi Desert.
They are seen navigating through rough terrains. Out of the two, one humanoid was wearing sneakers to test its speed potential. Both of the robots maintained a consistent pace across the challenging landscape. The robots also showed durability and agility. The robot reportedly hit its top speed in just 34 minutes.
The humanoids were able to achieve this feat thanks to the high-torque motors and advanced AI algorithms that are used in it. This enables the humanoid to traverse diverse surfaces such as paved roads, sand, and grass. It is also equipped with high-speed communication modules which allow the humanoid to process information in real-time. Because of this, it can move more swiftly and efficiently.
With this new achievement, STAR 1 is now placed ahead of its competitors like Unitree’s “H1” robot, which reached a maximum speed of 7.4 miles per hour earlier this year. It will be interesting to see if these humanoids will be put to a race sometime in the future, imagine a robot-racing competition!
