Apple is reportedly preparing one of the biggest updates for Siri, Apple’s native voice assistant. As per the reports, the upgraded Siri will get AI capabilities, allowing it to be more independent. Aside from the AI capabilities, Apple is also planning to completely redesign Siri with a new chatbot-style app and deeper integration across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. While Apple has not yet officially commented on anything other than that they are working on a Siri overhaul, leaks and rumours suggest that the upgrade could arrive for users as early as September with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. However, the early testers may get their hands on the same starting next month after the Cupertino giant concludes one of its biggest annual events, the WWDC 2026.
A recent report from Bloomberg also claims that Apple is rushing to rebuild its AI strategy as the company already falls behind its competitors. Moreover, the current plan of the Siri upgrade has also faced delays, which resulted in Apple settling for $250 million to iPhone buyers earlier this month. Aside from that, the company has also repeatedly faced criticism over falling behind rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Samsung.
The prime focus with the iOS 27 update will be AI-assisted Siri. Apple may also introduce significant changes to the Camera, Photos, Wallet, and Shortcuts apps. Many are already comparing the upcoming software upgrade to the design changes Apple introduced with the iPhone X, which completely reshaped the smartphone industry.

The report claims Apple is redesigning Siri to work more naturally across the operating system. Instead of only appearing as a voice assistant, Siri may now live inside the Dynamic Island and stay ready for quick actions, searches, and AI tasks.
Though the users may still activate Siri by saying ‘Siri’ or pressing the power button, Apple is also reportedly adding a new gesture. Leaks claim that swiping down from the top centre of the screen could open a new ‘Search or Ask’ interface that supports both typing and voice commands with iOS 27.
Moreover, this new interface may also allow the users to search the web, open apps, send messages, create reminders, or perform actions inside apps without manually navigating through menus.

Other than the native changes, Apple is also expected to be preparing Siri to support outside AI services. A report suggests that Apple has already tested the integrations internally with Google Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Anthropic’s Claude.
Furthermore, it also suggested that the users may also get an option to route questions directly to these services through Siri. Apple is also said to be developing its own AI-powered web search system to compete with platforms like Perplexity.
The reports about Apple launching a dedicated Siri app have also been there online for a while now. The app is expected to work similarly to ChatGPT or Gemini, with conversation history, voice mode, text input, and support for uploading files or images.
Apple reportedly plans to finally bring some delayed Apple Intelligence features announced earlier. Siri could soon understand personal data such as emails, messages, notes, reminders, and calendar events.
For example, users may ask Siri to find free time before scheduling meetings or draft emails using details from their calendar and online information. Siri may also analyse what is currently visible on the screen to offer better responses and actions. The new interface is also expected to show rich information cards for weather, sports scores, people, places, and news topics.
The Camera app on the device is also anticipated to be more user-friendly, as the tech giant plans to stuff more customisable controls inside the app. Users may get an ‘Add Widgets’ panel to place their preferred camera tools in easier positions.
Along with that, Siri may also become part of the Camera app through a visual AI mode. If that happens, then the consumers could point the camera at objects and ask questions or run searches using AI services like Google or ChatGPT.
Other than that, the Photos app is expected to receive new AI tools called Reframe and Extend. Reframe could adjust image perspective, while Extend may use AI to generate missing parts of photos.

Apart from Siri, Apple is reportedly testing AI-powered wallpapers, a grammar checker, and a smarter Shortcuts app. The Cupertino tech giant is also expected to giver users an option to create automations by simply describing what they want in everyday language.
Other than that, the Wallet app could also allow custom passes for gym memberships and sports events. Apple is expected to announce all these features at WWDC 2026 on June 8. However, do note that the features discussed above are based on reports, leaks and rumours and may change at the time of launch.
