Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse from accessing its online store. Meta Muse is a personal AI agent introduced by Meta designed to autonomously complete multi-step tasks like web browsing, shopping, and booking travel on your behalf. The people who were using Muse to shop on Amazon may now see a warning saying that access by an unauthorised AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use. The e-commerce giant has also clarified that it had first asked Meta to stop Muse from accessing its site voluntarily. However, the company has now blocked Muse. Hence, the users who are attempting to shop on Amazon through Muse are now shown a message saying continued access by an unauthorised AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use.

The concerns from the e-commerce giant go beyond whether Muse identifies itself while shopping or not. The company believes that the AI agent could create privacy and security risks because it may access and retain customer information while browsing its website. Furthermore, these concerns are becoming more important as AI agents gain the ability to perform tasks on behalf of users instead of simply providing information.
