Now first thing’s first. Just a part of the trailer has leaked online, as per a GamesRadar report. The leaked footage gives us an early look at the updated version of the fan-favourite pirate adventure. It includes a bit of gameplay and some cinematic moments, suggesting that the remake is still a work in progress. And as per reports, the leaked trailer shows that visual upgrades are not just noticeable, but look quite amazing as well.
In one of the clips, protagonist Edward Kenway is standing on a ship alongside Blackbeard. There are also glimpses of naval combat, including cannon fire and explosions. The ocean, which was a major highlight of the original game, seems to have received visual improvements as well, especially in terms of water and wave effects.
Now, the original game launched back in 2013 and was already considered visually impressive for its time. So this remake does not appear to be just a simple resolution bump. Earlier reports have hinted at improvements in lighting and overall graphical detail, which seems to line up with what we are seeing in the leaks.
At this point, it is still unclear how the footage made its way online. There were earlier rumours suggesting that Ubisoft planned to announce the game sooner, but that reveal may have been delayed. Reports also indicate that select media and creators were recently shown a longer presentation, which could be where these assets came from.
There has also been talk of the expected launch time of the game. Reports say that the game could arrive on July 9, 2026. However, Ubisoft has not confirmed this yet.
Now some details about the remake are still under wraps. For instance, it isn’t clear if Ubisoft plans to expand the gameplay with new RPG elements or bring back multiplayer features. That said, there is also a strong chance that the game could be integrated into Ubisoft’s broader Animus platform as the company continues to push towards a more connected ecosystem.
For now, all eyes are on April 23. If the leaks are anything to go by, fans might not have to wait much longer to see what Ubisoft has been working on.
