The much-awaited Batwara 1947 arrived in theatres on August 14 just ahead of Independence Day. The film has attracted attention because of its story set during the Partition of India. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the period drama features Sunny Deol, Preity G Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol in key roles. The film is currently playing in cinemas, but many people are already looking forward to its OTT release. Most Bollywood films usually arrive on OTT platforms around four to eight weeks after their theatrical release. Following this trend, Batwara 1947 may arrive on an OTT platform by late September or October 2026.
However, there is no confirmed release date yet. The movie is backed by Aamir Khan Productions, which could mean a longer gap between its theatrical and digital releases. The makers have also not revealed which streaming platform will get the digital rights.

Batwara 1947 is set during the Partition of India in 1947. The story follows a displaced Muslim family that moves into a haveli in Lahore during the partition. The family discovers that an elderly Hindu woman is still living inside the property. The film is reportedly inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s well-known play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai.

Batwara 1947 reportedly had a production budget of around Rs 120 crore to Rs 150 crore. The film earned Rs 5.75 crore net in India on its opening day, as per reports. However, it is facing strong competition from Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, which opened with around Rs 21 crore net.
