.Ranbir Kapoor had to take many efforts to transform himself into a rock star. He practiced guitar at A. R. Rahman's studio for many days, read Kurt Cobain's biography and familiarized himself with him.
.The film was shot in reverse as the crew didn't want to break the continuity of Ranbir Kapoor's hairstyle. So the climax with long hair was shot first.
.Director Imtiaz Ali, who loved Kareena Kapoor's performance in his Jab We Met wanted to cast her in Rockstar. However, the script in Rockstar required some romantic scenes between the romantic leads. As Ranbir and Kareena happened to be cousins, this would have been a problem. She was replaced by Nargis Fakhri.
.Huge crowd of audience got out of the theater believing Jordan died in the end, that was not true, but exactly what was planned in the first place by script writers.
.During the Sadda Haq sequence several scenes show Tibetans and Jordan performing in front of them. Several posters have 'give us our rights' written on them. The song literally means the same. This is an indirect support of the Tibetan cause of freedom from China from Imtiaz Ali. He has also stated that his next movie would be directly based on the same. Though the posters directly showing the word 'Tibet', it was blurred in the theatrical version.
.Major parts of the song "Saadda Haq" video was shot at the Norbulingka monastery in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala. People waving the Free Tibet flag in the backdrop was shown in the song video. This triggered a dispute between Central Board of Film Certification and Imtiaz Ali when the Board ordered Ali to blur the flag and free Tibet slogan before the film hit the theatre, but the director refused to do it.
.In the original script, Ranbir Kapoor's character 'Jordan' dies in the end. However, director Imtiaz Ali and Kapoor felt that this might not be the best possible ending, so the entire climax was re-shot.
.Mark Shammi Kapoor's last appearance in a feature film who died on August 14, 2011.
.The song 'Kun faya kun', was shot immediately after some emotional scenes, where Ranbir had long hair. However, for this song, he had short hair and when he entered the sets on the first day of the shoot for this song, no one could recognize him.
.Ranbir Kapoor won his first ever Best Actor Award at the 2012 Filmfare Awards.
.The porn film 'Jungli Jawani' that Jordan and Nargis watch is actually edited from scenes of a B-grade film 'Jungle Love'. The lead actress of that film later unsuccessfully tried to sue Yash Raj Films and Imtiaz Ali for using those scenes as porn without her permission.
.The film was released on 11/11/11.
.To be a rockstar Ranbir Kapoor had spend much of his time with A. R. Rehman learning guitar.
.For the song 'Naadan Parinde' , Ranbir tried different looks and almost 2 dozen wigs.
.Nargis Fakhris voice was dubbed
.Imtiaz Ali had written the first draft of Rockstar in 2007 and wanted to cast Hrithik Roshan as Jordan and Kareena Kapoor as Heer. There were a lot of media speculation surrounding this news. However Hrithik Roshan declined, because he didn't like the story ended with Jordan dying, and that the script focused less on the love between Jordan and Heer, and more on the rise and fall of a musician. Imtiaz Ali rewrote the script, and narrated it to Ranbir Kapoor, but had no intention on casting Kapoor. Still unsatisfied, he went on to direct Love Aaj Kal. In late 2010, he then announced Rockstar and his lead star Ranbir Kapoor.
.Shammi Kapoor acted with his Grand Nephew Ranbhir Kapoor for the first and last time.
.Director, Imtiaz Ali, choosed Mohit Chauhan's voice as the vocals of JJ's character for the continuty in voice.
