1. Karan Johar was originally supposed to direct this film with Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, and Sanjay Dutt as the main leads. The film was then titled Kaal. But Karan dropped this project to work on Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001). Aditya Chopra knew about the script and decided to make "New York" years later. He did this thinking Karan was not going to make the film. Years later Rensil D'Souza decided to brush off Karan Johar's old script Kaal and make it as "Kurbaan". It was when New York in production that Karan realized Aditya Chopra had taken the story without getting his permission or consulting him. Kurbaan had already started and it was too late to stop the film. This created friction in the friendship of Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra.
2. The film was the first solo pairing of Saif and Kareena but it bombed badly just like their previous films together.
3. The film ran into trouble due to its provocative poster of A Backless Kareena.
4. Vivek Oberoi replaced Irrfan Khan in the film.
5. The film was titled "Jihaad" at one point.
6. Saif, Kareena, and Vivek Oberoi worked after Omkara.
7. Akshaye Khanna was offered the film but could not agree on his price. It was for Vivek Oberoi's role.
8. Dia Mirza made a Special appearance in this movie.
9. Karan Johar had written the story for Kurbaan about six or seven years ago. The film was supposed to star Shah Rukh Khan, Tabu, and Sanjay Dutt. It was to be directed by Nikhil Advani and all the other details were finalized too. But, for some reason, it didn't get made then.
10. Vivek Oberoi initially disagreed to play Riyaz's role in the film until Karan Johar encouraged him and convinced him enough to act in the film.
