The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be the successor to the disastrous Galaxy Note 7

It seems like Samsung may not have given up on its Galaxy Note lineup of smartphones following the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. The company is said to be already working on the Galaxy Note 8 under the codename ‘Baikal’. However, additional details about the device are not yet known.

Initial reports had suggested that Samsung was planning to kill its Note brand following the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. However, this may not be the case as Samsung indirectly confirmed that there will be a Galaxy Note 8. As part of its smartphone upgrade program for the Galaxy Note 7, customers who purchased the Note 7 and replaced it with the Galaxy S7, will be offered a chance to upgrade to the Galaxy S8 or the Note 8 at half the price.

Last month, Samsung confirmed that a faulty battery design was the reason behind the Galaxy Note 7 catching fire. The company said the external casing for the battery was too small to accommodate the components leading to a short-circuit. Samsung said that it would be introducing "multi-layer safety measures and 8-Point Battery Safety Check" as part of its product evaluation in order to avoid a repeat of the same problem.
