Samsung Galaxy S23 owners are reporting a familiar and frustrating problem after installing the One UI 8.5 update. Several users have flagged the appearance of permanent green and pink lines on their displays, with reports surfacing on Reddit, Samsung’s own community forums and X. The issue echoes a long-standing complaint among Samsung smartphone users, where lines appear on screens when a device heats up, often during the installation of a software update.
Not every Galaxy S23 user updating to One UI 8.5 is affected. SamMobile noted that its own Galaxy S23 unit showed no signs of the issue after updating, suggesting the problem may depend on individual hardware variance or environmental conditions at the time of installation rather than affecting every device uniformly.
Since the issue is believed to be triggered by heat, users in hot and humid climates, including India, may be at higher risk. One precaution that has been suggested is keeping the phone in a cool environment while a software update installs, rather than leaving it somewhere warm or in direct sunlight.
Samsung has not issued an official statement or fix for users affected by this specific instance of the problem. Notably, the company had previously run a programme replacing displays on Galaxy S23 units affected by green line issues, but that initiative was only confirmed to run until 25 December 2025. There is no confirmation on whether Samsung has extended or restarted this programme to cover the current wave of complaints tied to One UI 8.5.
