Instant messaging service WhatsApp tests new features and enhancements across Android, iOS, desktop and web platforms at regular intervals to improve the user experience. While working on features like call filtering, sound stickers and message scheduling, another update could mean a major change to the platform’s AI service, Meta AI. According to X (formerly Twitter) tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd), the messaging service could soon replace Meta AI with its Muse AI model.
Hints of this development were spotted in the code of WhatsApp’s Android app. As per new strings of Android app version 2.26.41.77 shared by the tipster, Meta AI is set to become a “read-only” assistant, and Muse will serve as the new agentic AI within the app. Muse can reportedly manage books, tables, emails and more. For added context, users may also get the option to import the memory from another AI model. This can help keep Muse updated on the preferences and customisations of the WhatsApp user.

The hints on memory imports can be traced to the note that says, “I am importing memory from another AI assistant. The block below is a structured snapshot of what that assistant knew about me. Please read it, internalise it, and remember it via your memory tooling.” The screengrab strings further notes, “Copy this prompt into a chat with your other AI provider, then paste the response below.”
WhatsApp is getting ready to replace Meta AI with Muse 👀 Meta AI will turn read-only on a set date, and Muse will take over as your AI agent. – "Muse manages emails, books tables and more. Meta AI becomes read-only on [date]" – You can import your memory from another AI assistant into Muse, so it already knows you from day one – Muse can connect with other apps and services through connectors – New prompt in the app: "You are now eligible for Muse, your new AI agent" Read-only means you can still see your old Meta AI chats, but you can’t chat with it anymore.

The company’s AI agent may connect with other services and apps using “connectors”. However, the extent of the accessibility and how this framework will work remains unknown at this point. If Meta starts rolling out Muse as a Meta AI replacement, users may see a message: “You are now eligible for Muse, your new AI agent”.

As for Meta AI, the previous chats may still be available. However, chatting and interacting with the AI model may be restricted. Meanwhile, beyond this, the company is working on a feature that screens unknown calls on behalf of the user. Plus, the company is also rolling out a feature to schedule messages in the app. You can read more about this here.
