Want to update your Aadhaar for free online? Here is how you can still do it

HIGHLIGHTS

Aadhaar users can now update their documents online for free until June 14, 2027.

The free update option lets users upload ID and address proof through the myAadhaar portal.

Updating Aadhaar details can help avoid verification issues and keep records accurate.

The Aadhaar card is one of the most commonly used government ID docs in India. Millions of residents use it to prove who they are and where they live. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently announced that they are pushing back the deadline for updated ID and address info online via the myAadhaar site. Now, the Aadhaar holders have more time to check and fix their info for free. UIDAI also encouraged folks, especially those who haven’t updated in years, to verify their info so that they can avoid any issues later. Here’s everything you need to know and how you can update your Aadhaar details.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) says keeping supporting documents updated helps maintain accuracy for demographic info like name, address, and other personal details that might change over time. The authority urged the Aadhaar holders to make sure their info in the Aadhaar records is up-to-date. They further added that the updated Aadhaar details can help avoid problems when using the identity document for various services.

Users were earlier allowed to update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents free of cost through the mAadhaar portal. However, the facility was available only for a limited period.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had recently extended until June 14, 2027. The authority recently took X (formerly Twitter) to announce the deadline extension for free document updates.

It is worth noting that while uploading documents online remains free of charge, users who choose to update their details by visiting Aadhaar enrolment or update centres may still have to pay the applicable service fee.

UIDAI also points out that updating Aadhaar records makes authentication and verification smoother. People whose info changed because of moving or other reasons should consider an update. So, keeping things current is super helpful.
