Videos of a humanoid crashing into an electrical box have sparked both amused and concerned reactions online.

Unitree Robotics is in the headlines for showcasing a new humanoid robot that can reportedly perform a 2-metre standing vertical jump and reach a top speed of 12.66 metres per second. The company stated that the machine was developed in just over three months and also posted the videos of these tests online. The company also claimed that the Honor Lightning humanoid won all three medals at the Beijing half marathon in April. However, the company’s founder stated that this humanoid robot is a new prototype called Superman and is yet to reach the final stage of development.

But even after these claims, social media is now flooded with videos of the humanoid robot crashing into an electrical box shortly after testing.

Unitree robot pushes speed and jumping limits

Unitree showcased that its latest humanoid can jump 2 metres vertically and reach 12.66 m/s, despite having legs measuring only around 0.85 metres. A video shared by the company shows the robot completing the jump and landing upright. The claimed running speed is also considerably higher than the 10 m/s record previously set by Unitree’s H1 humanoid earlier this year and past Usain Bolt’s record.

High-speed crash highlights control problems

Even after breaking all the records, the X’s Today’s News trend is full of the humanoid robot crashing into the electrical box. The incident got a mix of amused and concerned reactions. Some viewers joked about the robot’s inability to brake after reaching high speed, while some praised the technology and ability to break all the records.

Some even suggested that a robot needs to coordinate its motors, joints, balance systems and power delivery in real time. It must also be able to change direction, slow down and recover from unexpected movements without falling or damaging its hardware, said netizens.
