OpenAI has announced that it is rolling out the ability to start using ChatGPT instantly, without needing to sign-up. This is rolling out gradually, with the aim of making AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities.

OpenAI can use the information you provide to ChatGPT to improve its models for all users. You can turn this off in your Settings, whether you’ve created an account or not.

OpenAI mentioned that it has introduced “additional content safeguards for this experience”, including blocking prompts and generations in a wider range of categories. But why? 

“We considered the potential ways in which a logged out service could be used in inappropriate ways, informed by our understanding of the capabilities of GPT-3.5 and risk assessments that we’ve completed,” a spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch.

Now, let’s talk about what you won’t be able to do if you use ChatGPT without signing up. If you use ChatGPT without creating an account, you won’t be able to save and review your chat history, share chats, and unlock additional features like voice conversations and custom instructions.

According to OpenAI, more than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly to learn something new, find creative inspiration, and get answers to their questions.
