Sony has reportedly refused to provide warranty support for a brand-new Sony PS5 1TB Slim bought through Swiggy Instamart. The console arrived sealed, without any damage, and worked properly, but when the buyer contacted Sony to register the product, he found that the warranty could not be claimed. According to the buyer, Sony requested the invoice, console serial number and warranty card before informing him that the seller listed on the invoice was not an authorised Sony India dealer. The buyer claims Sony later confirmed in writing that the console would not qualify for warranty service, leaving him to seek a resolution from the seller.
A Reddit post from a frustrated Sony PlayStation 5 buyer has recently gained traction. The buyer reportedly purchased a brand-new console at full price from Swiggy Instamart. While the product itself was neither damaged nor used, an issue arose when the buyer tried to officially register the console.

Sony support initially asked for details about the seller, along with documents related to the purchase. Following this, the company reportedly denied the warranty registration, claiming that the console had been purchased from an unauthorised Sony dealer. The buyer said he has since contacted the quick-commerce platform, and the support responded several times with apologies and directed him to contact Sony, without resolving the warranty dispute.
According to Sony’s PlayStation support information, PS5 consoles come with a standard one-year warranty, with proof of purchase required for warranty service. Sony India also warns consumers that products purchased from unauthorised dealers may not qualify for manufacturer warranty coverage.

In his Reddit post, the buyer says that the PS5 was purchased at the full MRP of Rs 70,000. He further added that he checked everything he could, including that the device was sealed, the GST invoice was present, and the warranty card had a matching serial number. But he said that there was no clear warning before purchase that the seller’s authorisation status could affect warranty coverage of the console.
