Apple may rollout Gemini backed Siri with crazy new features this year, confirms Google

HIGHLIGHTS

Google confirmed that a smarter Siri powered by Gemini will launch later in 2026.

Apple and Google are working more closely, with Google Cloud helping improve Siri’s AI features.

It was delayed due to some issues, but it should bring better and more useful AI features to Apple devices.

Google has recently confirmed that the Gemini-powered Siri will make its debut later this year. Thomas Kurian revealed that Apple and Google Cloud are deepening their partnership to improve Siri. He said that Gemini will support future Apple Intelligence features, including a smarter Siri. Apple has already indicated that this upgraded assistant is planned for release in 2026, after facing delays tied to performance and accuracy. While details about how the system will run are still unclear, the update signals a major step in bringing advanced AI features into Apple devices and services for everyday users.

While speaking at the Google Cloud Next 2026 event in Las Vegas, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian shared the update about the Google-powered Siri. He described Apple as a key partner for Google and confirmed that Gemini models will form the base of future Apple Intelligence features, including a more advanced version of Siri. According to Kurian, Google Cloud is now Apple’s preferred cloud provider for this work.

Moreover, the update by Kurian matches the timeline provided by Apple earlier, as the Cupertino giant stated that the upgraded Siri will arrive sometime in 2026. The company first hinted at delays in early 2025, then later clarified that the rollout would happen within the following year. More recently, Apple reaffirmed that the project remains on track.

Reports say Apple first planned to release the update in spring 2026, but delays happened because of issues with accuracy and performance. The company has not officially announced a release date for the new Siri yet, but many people think it might be previewed when iOS 27 is introduced.

While the rumours painted a clear picture of what to expect from the upgraded Siri, one thing that still remains under wraps is how the system will run. It’s expected that Apple may rely on its own private cloud compute setup. However, a few reports suggest that Apple may use Google’s infrastructure, ditching its own setup. There are also indications that Apple has explored placing servers inside Google data centres to handle the expected increase in cloud demand.

More information about the new Gemini-powered Siri from Apple will probably be shared at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026. At this event, Apple is expected to launch iOS 27 and show new features. Adding Google Gemini to Apple’s system could become one of the biggest AI partnerships in recent years.
