It hit around 30,000 employees globally, and it was a huge shock to not only the employees but the tech industry as a whole. But while most were still processing the shock, one software engineer had already decided to treat it as a reset. Within 45 days of getting laid off, he has managed to crack interviews at over seven companies. He posted the same on a Reddit community, and his post has since gone viral. The first advice that the developer gave out was that instead of panicking and sending out resumes to each and every company, he did something else. Instead, he spent the first month upskilling, and he started using an AI assistant that he built himself, with a 30-day learning plan. By the end of it, he had two portfolio projects ready to show companies. In a market that is currently flooded with candidates’ resumes, this is what made the difference.
After his learning phase was complete, he shifted to full-scale job hunting. He was applying to 10 to 15 positions daily across platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, Naukri, and Wellfound. He also suggests that giving an overhaul to the online profiles makes a big difference as well. After he did that, the results were immediate, with around 20 recruiters reaching out to him on LinkedIn alone. He also mentions that the Premium version turned out to be helpful as well.
While the post was originally posted onto a single Reddit community, it was later on spread across the tech community. Several commenters pointed out that his Oracle background gave him a significant head start, but many others highlighted his proper planning instead of panicking.
In a market where tech layoffs are becoming common day by day, this story is a reminder that the tools disrupting jobs are also the fastest way back into them.
