Xbox, Microsoft’s gaming division, has reportedly secured streaming rights to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI. Citing sources and a statement from the company’s CEO Asha Sharma, The Verge reported Xbox managed to secure a deal to stream the game exclusively at launch. For context, the game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
According to the report, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be the only platform to stream the game at launch. However, the exclusive agreement’s duration remains unknown at the time of writing. Since GTA 6 maker Rockstar Games is yet to announce a PC version, the move will help Microsoft bring GTA 6 to the cloud service for PC players.
The latest update could mean Cloud Gaming users will be able to play GTA 6 on their PC, TV or smartphones via the streaming service. However, the company is set to limit streaming hours on the platform to 15 hours, 10 hours and 5 hours for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Game Pass Essential subscribers, respectively, from November.
Plus, the company is also introducing an option to pay for hourly bundles from next month, alongside the Game Pass subscription plans. These two updates could coincide with GTA 6’s availability on the streaming service. Other than launch, GTA 6 will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is also expected to unveil a host of devices as part of its next-generation Xbox gaming products (including the Xbox console) under its Project Helix in future. The company will reportedly partner with AMD to work on these products.
Update: Matthew Ball, the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, has clarified that the update around GTA 6 and Xbox has “ led to some misreporting”. “We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC,” Ball said.
While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.
