BGMI maker Krafton will launch a lighter version of its flagship Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) for a smoother experience on low-end smartphones. The highly anticipated BGMI Air, earlier called BGMI Lite, could be seen as an attempt by the game maker to cater to a larger audience interested in battle royale titles, having a budget or mid-range phone that is unable to utilise the true potential of BGMI due to its low-end processors and storage. Ahead of its official release later this year, we already have a lot of details floating in the public domain about BGMI Air.
For better context, here are the top five updates that you should know about the game.
Krafton India announced on October 15 that it is renaming BGMI Lite to BGMI Air. The name change could be triggered by a notion around the “Lite” wording in apps, which is assumed to offer a limited set of features. However, readers should note that Krafton has not stated a reason for the change.
Initially, the game will have a download size of around 1 GB. The minimum system requirements include 1.5 GB RAM and an Adreno 306 GPU or higher. Plus, Krafton is promising “no forced packages before the first match”. Beyond optional packages, players can delete previously downloaded packages.
Players will have the option to log in to BGMI Air with their existing BGMI accounts. Plus, the game will also support multiplayer mode with the full-fledged BGMI version, implying players will not have to face the hassle of ID transfers. The items of BGMI will carry over to BGMI Air after account login.
As for the gameplay, the game is expected to offer slightly toned-down graphics, but Krafton is betting on a “high-quality BGMI standard” with BGMI Air. The gaming title will ship with the classic Erangel map, weapons and supplies, including the iconic helmet. Further, reports claim BGMI Air may offer up to 60 FPS gameplay.
Krafton’s official Play Store listing promises rewards for pre-registrations. However, the game maker has not revealed the exact details. While BGMI Air pre-registrations are already live on the Google Play Store and have crossed 10 million sign-ups, Krafton confirmed BGMI Air will launch later this year. An open beta of BGMI Air is expected ahead of its official release.
The beta build will help Krafton refine the game before the official public release this year based on the feedback of players. However, an exact date or month remains unknown. Plus, since Krafton has not shared any details of a launch on iOS, iPhone users will have to wait longer for the game.
